This was shit. Worst thing Lynch has ever done.

Eraserhead will always be his best. Followed by the first third of Lost Highway. Then Muholland. Then Blue Velvet. Then original Twin Peaks. Then Grandmother. Elephant Man, Wild at Heart are okay. The rest is forgettable but barely watchable.

Then we have this trash. This was the worst thing Lynch has ever done. He overemphasized the elements of the original and they lost their impact. The plot is too transparent. The mystery is gone. Lynch jumped the shark.

Have watched 3 of the 4 episodes, and just finished watching all of the original show just a while back.

I fucking loved the original show, especially Season 1 and the few truly Lynch elements in Season 2 (IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN).

The new episodes I don't strictly dislike, but it feels a lot more intentionally heady and what I imagine to be the stereotype "David Lynch movie where everything's surreal and like, totally blows your mind, maaaaan". Which I guess isn't a problem (people more familiar with Lynch's other work probably have a lot more to grab onto) except that it feels like it clashes so heavily with a lot of the simpler pastiche elements of the original show.

I feel like most people's hangups about the new season have to do with that change in style and tone, and the original show being so thoroughly limited in what it could do which forced Lynch and Frost to adapt their own ideas to the medium. The new show just feels self-indulgent in places and while it's fun for a headfuck, it doesn't really match the original series in tone - not that it ever was going to considering the real life time difference.

I could qualify myself as a big David Lynch fan but I won't, because it means nothing without a good argument. You can align yourself with this idea of Lynch going against the grain and showing the normies who is boss or whatever but if you can't legitimize your reason for why it was successful as an attack against the mainstream then you're likely just trying to claim a feeling of superiority for yourself. I have seen no solid argument from this lynched crowd as to why they should feel proud for it being good. Most of you are trolling.

This was Lynch attempting to preserve the original vibe while taking it in a massive new direction and it failed. Utterly failed. He exhausted the mystique of the original and ruined the mystery of the Red Room by declaring what it was for Cooper. The Red Room became too comfortable. The characters and the plot became too contrived and revealed. The mystery is gone. He spent it. He tried but blemished am otherwise good series.
