They just don't die of natural causes, at least not on anything even close to a human timeframe. So they do have anuses, and they do shit. But they probably do so in a very elegant way. The Kings of Arnor and Gondor all stem from Elendil. Elendil ruled Arnor and Isildur and Anárion jointly ruled Gondor.

Anárion and Elendil died during the last alliance war.

Isildur and his line took over as Kings of Arnor and Anarions son and line ruled Gondor. Anarions line was lost and stewards took over.

Isildurs line was kept intact all the way to Aragorn. Since no one is alive to claim Gondor and Aragorn is decended from Isildur, he has a claim to both thrones.
