Moore also hoped to specifically include an appearance from Mario, citing a "good relationship with Nintendo".[15] On June 30, 2016, Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that the sequel would be released on March 9, 2018, with Reilly, Moore and writer Phil Johnston attached, and that it would focus on "Ralph leaving the arcade and wrecking the Internet".[16]

The sequel's title was officially announced in March 2017 as Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. Further, Disney affirmed that Reilly, Jane Lynch, Jack McBrayer, and Sarah Silverman are set to reprise their roles, while Rich Moore returns as director joined by co-writer Phil Johnston in his directing debut and Clark Spencer returns as producer.[17] The subtitle is speculated to be an allusion to Kim Kardashian's risque photos used by Paper in a 2014 feature on her; the popularity of the photos online brought down the Paper servers, and thus it was said that Kardashian "broke the Internet".[18]

The most clunky title in the entire Walt Disney library. I'm sure the film will be great but they seriously need to rename it to just Wreck-It Ralph 2, because currently it sounds like a generic Disney early 2000s straight-to-DVD flop. Nobody will call it anything other than WIR2 anyway.
