The ending of Jack would have worked much better if they took a few more cues from Gurren and had a scene where jack and Ashi lament over the fact that she is going to vanish but move forward with the wedding anyways.

Weren't there several parts in the original series where Jack chose not to back to the past to save people? What was the point? They were going to die regardless.

There's a difference between dying and becoming nonexistent. Besides, there is still a chance that some of those people would still exist, albeit their lives be different and they have no knowledge of Jack and Aku

They aren't dead. They're still alive just living lives that haven't been completely stolen and destroyed by Aku. Jack liberated the entire timeline from Aku. He didn't destroy it.
