To me, forced diversity is when you can tell that the only reason there is a black/hispanic/asian person playing a character is because the ((studio execs)) want to play up the SJW crowd, even at the cost of the script.

Examples: The most recent Magnificent Seven reboot is not forced diversity. I have no problem believing the cast for this movie because the characters are appropriate to the time period the movie is set in.

The King Arthur movie, however, is forced diversity. It is extremely doubtful that A) a black man would be a knight of a medieval court, B) several free black people would be just sprinkled around Medieval England, and C) that there would be a Chinese martial arts master in medieval London.

Now, that doesn't mean that black people/minorities have to be excluded from all medieval/high fantasy movies. In the Kevin Costner Robin Hood adaption, for example, Morgan Freeman plays a Moorish soldier. This is a believable character, and adds to the story rather than takes away from it.

Of all the criticism about the cast picture, being surprised that a Shane Black flick has a kid character is the best way to reveal yourself as a film illiterate redditor.

I'm not even gonna defend the movie, but for once a tired franchise revival gets handled by a director with a modicum of experience and talent, as well as actual ties to the original production, instead of some nameless TV hack. The other McTiernan/Arnold/Black film had a kid protagonist (Last Action Hero), and so did most of his other movies. Christmas settings and kids characters are his fucking trademarks. You should be happy they're letting him do his own thing instead of listening to suits and focus groups.

It also seems like most people ITT aren't aware that Black is not a serious filmmaker. He's always done dark comedies. This movie is supposed to take place in a suburban setting with civilians, with obvious satire and irony. It might turn out to be shit, but I'm glad it's doing something different, instead of trash like Predators which was just a soulless copy of the original's formula without any of McTiernan's talent or Arnol'd charisma.
