Apart from the monster hunting it has a very gritty/medieval vibe, doesn't often feel like fantasy. There's kingdoms and people being taken over and all that sort of stuff. It's nothing really new except for the Witchers themselves. Everyone hates Witchers as they're seen as soulless monsters and only use them when they're desperate to have a monster killed. Witchers also never work for free.

Also, a thing Geralt goes to talk about in the books is that the silver sword isn't even necessary for most monsters as they're just as susceptible to any old conventional harm like Humans are.
