if your nerves get fucked they can stop working. I got cut pretty bad and it stopped hurting almost instantly, I have nerve damage and my skin is numb there now. so it really just depends on where you get cut and so on, pain is a really hard thing to actually quantify and predict. if your hand got cut off by a lazer like that it would probably hurt like a mad cunt for about 2 seconds and stop if it destroyed your nerves.

Your body blocks off the pain in the moments after experiencing major trauma.
