Watched this for the second time, I remember liking it but it was incredibly boring.

That movie glorified autism like all animes do.

Why do people say he acts autistic? Is not talking a lot sufficient to be autistic? Gosling's character communicates himself extremely well through his body language, especially around Carey Mulligan, who is instantly attracted him because of the strength and self-assuredness he projects. Autists are terrible at picking up on nonverbal cues. If the movie were about an autist, the Driver would alternate between staring at the ground and random objects in the periphery, rarely making eye contact or making it for way too long. When he spoke, he wouldn't express himself in a calm, cool, deliberate way. He would either speak in a monotone, talk under his breath, or say certain things overly loud when he got excited.

Gosling's character at the beginning of Lars and the Real Girl would be much closer to how an actual autist would act.

The Driver is basically just a classic strong, silent type. He's a throw back to Clint Eastwood and Steve McQueen type characters. Cool, hyper competent, effortlessly good with women, and bad ass without being a braggart or a bully.

The point of the movie is to make fun of the tough guy persona gosling plays and to show that he too is a flawed person. The movie mixes really cool ultraviolence with scenes of gosling being cringey and odd to show that the whole persona is forced and daft.
