Is it possible for horror to be "comfy" ?
Yeah. Depends lot of where the film takes place. Suburbia at night with lights on the windows here and there - comfy. Abandoned sewers - not comfy
Also it helps if theres lot of mundane stuff going on before the real horror begins

But of course most japan ghost horror is super comfy
The kids at school kept making fun of me for watching Are You Afraid of the Dark and tormented me saying Tales From the Crypt was far superior. So I begged my mom to go to Blockbuster to get me Tales From the Crypt, and she accidentally brought back this. She thought "hood" was like...a Grim Reaper's hood or something.

That movie is... THE SHIT!

tales from the crypt is annoying, that skeleton man needs to hush up.

80s horror frames the mundane domestic venue really well. The Howling, Night Fliers, Halloween III, Videodrome.
