Jon Snow will get betrayed by Sansa and Little Finger paralleling what happened with Ned in the beginning. Jon Snow was an honorable brave man, but ultimately too trusting in the people around him. The reason the Melisandra was sent away is so he can not be resurrected this time.

If it was just the North then no, the combined forces of Tullys, Lannisters, Baratheons and Dorne if they got involved would have laughed.

The thing is, the promise doesn't even seem to be about Jon. Ned becomes increasingly agitated and haunted by the promise as time goes on, and there's absolutely no reason why this would happen if it was concerning Jon (they part ways at the beginning of the book and there's no further communication between them). At one point he awakens after dreaming about "blood and broken promises", but if the promise was about Jon, how has he broken it? He did right by Jon.

It actually seems more like the promise is about Dany. The reason why he becomes haunted by it is because of Robert's decision to have Dany killed, he feels like he's failed to protect her. This would also explain why he's so furious about Robert's decision, to the point that he quits as hand.

Shortly after Ned resigns, he gets attacked in the streets by Jaime and I think falls from his horse and is injured. He then wakes up after some fever dreams about the promise and suddenly doesn't want to leave KL anymore. This may be partly because he wants to stay and change Robert's mind about Dany. There's even a part where he's talking to Robert (I think when Robert is on his death bed) and Ned thinks about the promise just as the two of them are talking about Dany.

This is partly why I think Dany's parentage might be more complicated than we think.

I didn't know where else to post this so I assumed here would be best. Any Rome fans here?
I heard that at one point Max Pirikis was considered to take on the role of Joffrey from GoT. Of course he had been out for a while, SO Jack Gleeson ends up taking it. It makes me wonder how GoT would have been.

On another note, I've been thinking: what if Joffrey was as competent and intelligent as young Octavian? How would GoT have played out from Season 1?
Cersei may have less of a role over all since Octavian was more wise and cunning for his age, but he probably would have followed Cersei's advice and sent Ned to the wall to stop rumors of his illegitimacy. Then still keep Sansa as a hostage but probably treat her better. When Tyrion is sent to KL to rule in Tywin's stead, despite Cersei's protest, I could see him heeding Tyrion's advice more particularly in figuring out what to do with Stannis and how to deal with Stark tensions.
Joffrey would promptly still end up marrying Margery instead of Sansa though since that would be a to take Tyrell support from Renly. Then Tyrion would still have to marry Sansa.

The only thing that would be kind of mess up the plot is Selmy probably wouldn't be dismissed from the King's guard and thus wouldn't have reason to find Dany, imo.

There's an in-universe explanation about how Dareon I inflated the Dornish numbers when writing about his wars in Dorne, and no one ever corrected him because the Dornish want to appear more powerful. For what it's worth, Tyrion and Catelyn also believe the 50k remark.

Part of it may be that fighting Dorne typically comes down to invading and facing bitter grassroots resistance, while fighting the other kingdoms usually involves battles in the field. So, you could conquer the Westerlands by defeating an army of 22k on the Field of Fire. Then the West surrenders. If you want to conquer Dorne, you have to fight a much larger percentage of their population.

The Vulture King is supposed to have marshalled 30k to resist the Targaryens, and that was without official support from House Martell.
