A man is in the process of dying as he is dying God shows him Hell, then Heaven then giving him a mission to spread the Gospel.

He sees Hell - God makes it visible to him and he sees a woman walking around with a head blown off with a shotgun and her jaw is trying to talk, all sorts of evil. The man who is an Atheist sees all of it and for the first 40 minutes, absolutely terrifying. We see people looking lost, people are cutting their wrists a million times over, people who are being tormented by huge 8ft demons then those demons being raped by 20ft demons. Then we see Heaven.

I hate SAW.

It's more like a very intense Jacob's Ladder. Showing Hell in all it's brutality. Like Enter The Void + Horror, it's all shown from first person perspective too. Very artsy in my head.

Heaven is actually beautiful and celestial.

He asks God why did he show him Hell? He said, he only showed him just a minuscule part of it and said he created Hell for the Devil and his Angels not for man. God shows him death being thrown into the Lake of Fire along with Hell (Hades) and all those people who were in Hell are given a chance to come to Christ (and they do)

>>
>>82922894

I haven't seen a horror film like that.
>>
For something to be truly disturbing, it needs to fuck with your perception of reality. We all live in relative comfort in a civilized society, we have made up rules and morals for how we behave, and we think we know how things are supposed to be.

The kind of horror that really stays with me is the subject material that deals with the fact that there are no rules, that there is no justice, that the universe is cold and uncaring. Some examples I think of that illustrate this well are:

- The scene in Noah when he finds the village and witnesses their utter depravity.
- Event Horizon
- Dead Space
- War documentaries also do it
>>
>>82922637
So an edgier Jacob's Ladder?
>>
>>82922226
a person in the 21st century didn't have the comforts of escapism and was forced to deal with their problems
>>
A movie where a man knows he will have to relive every moment of his life over again for eternity when he dies
>>
for me its the unknown, so I dont know
>>
>>82923063

Additionally something like event horizon or hellraiser is scary because it implies that even if you die it won't free you
>>
A movie where no film is played and the audience is abducted and are all forced to undergo invasive surgeries where they are paralyzed but feel everything.

I hate movies where you can't tell what's a dream and reality.

>>
>>82923116
Hmm good point. I guess what really gets me about Event Horizon is how utterly hopeless it all is. The universe is so incomprehensibly big, and the fact that there are these indescribable horrors waiting for us out there beyond our ability or understanding is terrifying.

It's like, this is the universe, you are nothing, this is just how it is.
>>
>>82922226
the whole movie is first person like hardcore henry

An evil scientist uses a mind control gun to make you go on a killing spree all while you're fully concious but just can't control your muscles and shit and you get caught after a big spree and have to convince the cops that youre innocent

then at the end there's a big twist, while being interviewed by the police frantically trying to explain yourself all the cops leave the room except for one who tells the others to cut the camera, you think youre about to get a bad cop beatdown but then he reveals that he's actually an android and you're an android too, 14 days from now all the androids are meant to activate "kill all humans" mode but something malfunctioned and you went off early
>>
>>82923291

it will be scary because of how I would film it, people will wonder if they are actually witnessing real murder and its an extra dose of mindfucking that its all shot from POV perspective

Reminds me of Postal. The Postal Dude is possessed by a demon (The player) who makes him go on murder rampages. You can tell this because the grunting noises he makes when he gets shot is different from his talking voice
From the wiki:
"In the game files of the original POSTAL, the voice files of Rick Hunter are labelled as "Demon". The reason for this is that the voice heard in the game was originally not supposed to be the Postal Dude, but for a schizophrenic voice in his head implying either psychological instability, demonic possession, or both. The grunts and moans were separate voiceovers done by Vince Desi."

scariest movie of all time would probably be something that mimicd your own personal life

like the setting is EERILY similar to your own home, main characters are almost identical to your spouses/family/friends, the way they act in the movie is as you would expect them to were you dreaming or something

the big bad in the movie cuts them down slowly, everything you think about that the MCs should do, they do, but the bad finds a way past it to slaughter them

you are last, but then the twist is that the big bad is you and it all felt so familiar because the MC was killing them off because he knew how they would respond

ends with the mc going to sleep rubbing a scar on his hand
then when you turn off the TV you see you have the scar on your hand now too

It would be about the last man on earth, living somewhere in an abandoned city like new york or chicago. The first act would just be him living his life. Going to the store to get groceries. Jogging through a crowded freeway, basically like the first half of I am Legend. There would be no dialogue, and no explanation as to what happened that caused everyone to suddenly disappear. The man actually seems pretty happy with how his life is playing out and is completely carefree. Then one night as he is laying down on his couch, reading a book, he begins to doze off, when suddenly there is a knock at the door. He stares at the door in disbelief as his face turns white. Deciding against opening it, he locks the door and hides away in the basement for the remainder of the night. He awakes the next day and sees no sign of the intruder. This is where things begin to get weird. The man starts seeing notable changes wherever he goes. The diner he passes on his way to the grocery store now has plates and silverware on all the tables where before they were empty. Certain cars change places. A window up high will randomly flick on at night. He begins to feel as though someone of something is watching him. His sense of ultimate privacy and freedom has been invaded by an unknown specter, causing him to slowly spiral into insanity. Shadowy figures begin populating the city streets, they do not pursue but only stop to stare. He find strange messages written on post-it notes spread through out the city. Finally, the man has had enough and decides to stock up on food and barricade himself inside his house. He finally has his peace and quiet back, at least for a short while. Some days later the knocking returns, and becomes more aggressive with time. I don't know how it would end. Probably with the guy killing himself in the house before whatever it is manages to get in, or simply starving to death.

It's set in Sydney
Bondi beach
We follow a 23 year old woman who is a lawyer's secretary
She parties one night with her friends and takes ecstasy for the first time
She loves it and does it nearly every weekend until
She gets sleep paralysis and a man walks into her room with an unnaturally wide smile
He starts doing this demonic dance over her
She begins to break down and begins getting tormented by this ugly naked demon
Nervous breakdown with her friends and at work as she is constantly hit with sleep paralysis and visions
People grow concerned and want to commit her to a mental health clinic however her Christian father intercepts knowing its a spiritual warfare
Her father enlists the help of the God Squad CMC and she confesses and the demon is cast out
At first she hears Angelic voices that become more aggressive and tell her to do things like take her pants off in public to prove her loyalty to God
God Squad Pastor Dr. Nicholas says that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light
>>

that's pretty good. I like the idea of absolutely zero dialogue the whole movie
possible ending:
>knocking gets louder and louder
>he covers his ears
>is in fetal position crying
>knocking gets painfully loud (even for the audience)
>then the protagonist says the first thing in the whole movie: LEAVE ME ALONE!!
>sudden and complete quietness...
>we hear him breathing heavily; we see him drift into sleep
>the next day he waits and carefully opens the door
>scared he roams the city looking for sings.
>everything is like before; no signs of influence from someone else
>after we see him go to all the different places he normally visits, where everything is like before this experience, we see him standing somewhere overlooking the city
>we feel the vastness and emptyness of the city; we feel alone
>we see the protagonist wrapping his hands around himself as if he was hugging himself
>the camera moves to his face; we see tears streaming down it.
>he wispers: please come back....

Body horror is some of the best horror.

Humanity discovers a new medical breakthrough that allows people to grow/replace tissue. At first it's used soley for medical uses, amputees, skin grafts and deformaties but then slowly begins to be used for personal needs like plastic surgery. It soon spirals out of control with people transforming themselves into more and more elaborate creatures, deforming themselves until eventually they begin to forcibly change others, erasing peoples physical identies by transforming them into monsters.

The story could follow a invesitgator/reporter just before shit really starts to hit the fan, the skin sculpter fad begins taking a dark turn when a post modern art piece is discovered to be a human sculpted into a strange and bizarre form, the main character dives deeper into the sculpters world where they multilate themselves but see it as a progressive force in society.

Yes they are great films, but not necessarily "scary".
The Thing is scary not because of the great practical effects on the monster but the execution of the tension and the scenes itself.

This is impossible to make. People have different fears and find different subject matter to be more terrifying than others.

I for one, am utterly terrified of world ending calamity events, like asteroids. Melancholia played on one of my worst fears but it's not a horror. Slasher/gore and other traditional horror scream fest movies don't scare me, but just make me uncomfortable. Horror that tries too hard is effective on children and young women.

Probably not
>scariest
but just an idea.
It's psychological horror about first alien contact.
It starts out kind of like District 9, a few months or so after contact. Everyone is abuzz with what could be next for humanity, what the aliens could teach us. At first it's like a new renaissance -- everyone is excited and optimistic. But the aliens are so technologically advanced that they eventually start to take humanity's progress into their own hands. We watch the humans slowly begin to feel more primitive and powerless as they descend into nihilism and degeneracy, while the aliens impose increasingly strict, Orwellian rules, "for our own good" of course. I guess the idea is that the aliens are not really the antagonist per se (they have humanity's best interest at heart and really are trying to help), but the fact that they are so far beyond us gives us this overwhelming feeling of powerlessness and apathy. I wish I could type up a better synopsis but I'm at work.

Something massively relate-able, meaning it'd have to involve the character we're following to do things we think is going to work out for them. So you'd need to manipulate what the audience would think to do in these circumstances and have an answer that isn't just out of nowhere. That in itself is a damn hard thing to achieve.
Then you'd need to make things we don't think about regularly, but all interact with or witness through our lives, and use them in a way that whenever they see or use these things after viewing the movie, they'll be reminded of it.

The plot itself would have to be something possible. Supernatural things are fine for mindless scares, but it has a layer of detachment that makes you feel safe, you can tell yourself it's not real nor possible. Mental illness is terrifying IMO, so I would focus it around that, and also involve technology. But I couldn't tell you what the fuck I'd do with it, I don't know how to write horror.

A movie where an innocent couple is thrown into the depths of the secret lives of the "converted", basically a movement with occult implications and sex rituals. Antinatalism is one of their main principles and the destruction of any sprout of sincere love to anything.
Something like wide eyes shut but with more degeneracy and more focus in the occult forces behind the whole thing.
>>
The only time I've ever felt real horror was last year. I went to visit my grandad (who had basically raised me), and found him dead in bed, with his eyes wide open and glazed over.

I've been watching all manner of horror films since I was about 5 years old, and I've never seen something replicate what I felt.

a film about the mongols raping and geocoding their way across central asia could be very unnerving. mountains of skulls that appear to be white capped mountains in the distance. collecting ears to wear as necklaces. brutal gory shit.

yes but not shit

There is a movie with similar twist.

ay another ager fan.
I think it's retarded that he thinks Fury Road is MEDIOCRE, and he thinks rogue one is one of the best movies of the decade. nobody's perfect I guess

so a retarded version of Jacob's Ladder lacking any subtlety? nice.

Is it that one where a bunch of teens go into the woods and one eats a psychedelic mushroom and goes whackadoodles and kills the others? Can't remember it's name.

Would love to see a one-off short series about The Jaunt by Steven King.

"It's longer than you think."
Love that quote.
It's not just saying that it's a long time. It's longer than you are able to think. It's so long, all you are able to do is think. Think. Think. Time ticks by, each second firing synapses as you try to process the infinite and infinitesimal with that lump of meat that contains all that you are.
Time passes, seemingly without end. A blink of an eye to the outside world. But inside the slip, without the sedative, you run out of thought before you run out of time. You exhaust your memories. Your imagination can only create so many new lives to lead.
Captain Picard in the episode The Inner Light experienced a lifetime in a day. He was forever changed because of it. And that was only one life. Inside the slip, you have time for nearly countless lives. Whatever your imagination can dream up.
That is, until it runs out.
Eventually, your mind cannot coherently create a stable timeline or comprehensive reality. Beyond imagination lies dreams, and within dreams, nightmares dwell.
An increasingly disjointed and strange world of terror and misery, the only things your mind can craft. Forever trapped within a private Hell of your own creation. But even that isn't the end.
Past Hell is Oblivion. Your mind shuts down. You no longer think. All you do is exist, and all you have is awareness of your isolation. For what may be a near eternity, isolation is all you have, all you are.
By the time you're through the slip, your psyche has been irreparably damaged. It's longer than you think.
It's longer than you THINK.

I really liked that story and I've never seen anyone else mention it, good taste anon. Out of that whole collection of shorts that one really stuck with me. King is by far at his best with short/medium length stories, he is terrible at big payoffs.

yes, imagine having feelings about the political climate of your country for more than a moment. imagine being something other than hollow. imagine leaving mommy's basement for something other than chicken tendies

The best way to do this would to pick out all the different specific things that really fuck with people. Out of those ingredients you could make something really freaky.

To list some things that could be used:

Not knowing the exact intentions of the antagonist, but knowing they are bad. Your mind will fill in the blanks with the worst thing possible.

Helplessness, but not hopelessness. Being able to run/hide/resist so there is a small chance at survival, but knowing that the chances are very slim and you are at the mercy of the antagonist.

Uncanny Valley. As far as monster/enemy design, if something looks human, but very slightly looks off, that fucks with us at our core. Our monkey brains go apeshit.

Something you cant lose. The protagonist needs to have something to protect, that it barely can, like the little girl in Aliens.

The plot beats are invisible. The audience needs to be able to accept that anything can happen, and not be able to go along and predict cliches, expectations need to be challenged especially in horror.

Death cant save you. Like one anon said in Event Horizon, it's very scary to not have an out. It gets rid of that, "well worst case scenario at least if I die its over." Dying could be seen as a relief in a really scary movie, so take that away somehow and have the consequences of failure/capture be worse than death.

Show just enough that the audience understands the severity of the threat, but not enough where the audience knows what to expect. The old movies got this right.

Really important, have the protagonists be capable, dont have them make stupid decisions to move the plot, but have them fail anyway. The Thing does this, and makes the movie scary. Not only do you need to survive, but you also need to push yourself and think through issues without making mistakes, and even that may not be enough. It gets rid of the whole "well if they werent retarded they wouldve lived" thing that happens in horror.

I'd like a scene where you see a house, maybe a suburban neighbourhood, some humans run inside and soon after this monstrous giant comes up to the house.
It isn't confused about where they went, it knows they're inside there.
And it starts pushing its hands through the doors and the windows trying to grab someone, eventually it catches someone, drags them out.
Maybe it swallows the person whole, maybe it bites of the legs and leaves the screaming body on the lawn. The human still in the house was a little smarter and knew where to go so the giant wouldn't be able to reach him, but the giant just starts pulling off the roof and eventually gets the other one as well.

>>82922637
you know I always wondered

waht happens if you die in hell?
does your body get reconstituted after a day or something?

what if you actually enjoy the demon cock? or what if you actually enjoy physical pain because your a sadist and it really gets you off?

Hell is just such a flawed concept to me because what you may find horrifying or awful someone else may find it amazing
>>
>>82936689
you know your stuff
>>
>>82936802
Even the worlds most hardcore sadist wouldnt enjoy getting their cock flayed after the 5000th time.
>>
>>82936802
A masochist loves the pain, the sadist loves to inflict.

If the concept of your soul traveling and existing in a plane isn't too far fetched, the concept of having the plane customised to your demise shouldn't either. I mean the 7 planes should have something for everyone to enjoy.

just watch that shitty anime with the giants that are drawn like retarded toddlers

More things:

The antagonist doesn't hesitate or "play with its food". It acts deliberately and expertly. The Thing does this good too, you know that the very second the thing has you at a disadvantage you are fucked.

You need a protagonist that you can relate to. Even if the setting is crazy or sci-fi. Alien pulled this off with the Space Truckers all being very normal and relatable. You could easily jump in their shoes and realize that you would get fucked just like them.

Body horror can be used to really disgust people. There is something about looking at what you know is meat, but you dont know what it does, especailly if you could be turned into it too.

One thing thats fun, have something seemingly random happen that simply is not explained. The Shining did this with the guy in the bear suit near the end. As long as it fits the movie, it can create a "things are beyond my comprehension" level of fuckery, which makes the audience feel insignificant and small, and on edge since now anything can happen.

Don't let the audience ever feel safe. I know its not horror, but The Gray does this well. Any moment the wolves can come crush them, and you know it.

Theres a ton more. Most horror movies do at least one or two things very very right, so if you want the perfect horror movie you need to sit down and research exactly what worked and splice it all together and pray the producer/director/actors all make a great product.

>>
>>82937120
Oh and one final thing you need, work in some sort of "big question" or philosophy into the plot. Something for people to walk away and think about, discuss, or argue about for decades. Not required for a great movie, but many great movies have it.

>>
>>82936953
You know, I did think that shit was scary for about five episodes, and then the horrible anime conventions become too much.

Yeah the monsters are creepy and the setting is good for horror, but oh man does it treat the audience like a bunch of retards. I dont need a 10 minute mental monologue every episode. I understand the guys motivation. I didnt forget 5 minutes ago after the last mental monologue.

fist of all if you believe in the bible's hell you aren't going to see any demons on hell, cause all of them are going to be purged in the lake of fire, you will be in a place with no god, that's why you are going to suffer for all eternity, all this thing with demons with tridents are bullshit and the absence of God is even worse than just physical pain

I think It Follows comes as close to what I think is actually scary compared to other films.

>She had no idea what was going to happen to her,
>it's happening
>Everyone that tries to help gets BTFO'd

She had help at the end, but she was basically totally alone in dealing with this and she still had to live out her life because there's nothing she can do about it.

A doomsday cult slowly takes over the world, like a pandemic. Followers abandon their obligations and devote their time entirely to the cult, taking part in very bizarre rituals. Global society slowly grinds to a halt, as people from every class, race and age join. The holdouts, including the protagonist, await the prophesied end of the world - whatever form it takes.

Giant space insects invade and eat everything[/spoilers]
