start looking at films before 1960, OP.

You will be shocked by the high quality of those films. Even some of the most unremarkable noir movies blow modern film out of the water in every category: entertaining, artistic, social relevancy, drama, humor, fear. Older movies that are supposed to be action adventure (like any old gangster flick) are funnier than modern comedies, more romantic than modern romances, more frightening than modern horror, more interesting than modern blockbusters.

Look at something like "Some Like it Hot" - it's more shocking and taboo breaking as well as funny and frightening in parts compared to any modern film.

Even their PSAs are superior to modern filming: check out The Lost Weekend, a Billy Wilder film. On it's surface it's just a PSA about alcoholism but it's so much better than most modern movies and tv shows it's fucking ridiculous.
