I think even 4chan can admit the Morgan Freeman is not coasting on affirmative action. He's a genuinely good actor and I'd like to see evidence of otherwise.
Evidence is defined as consistently poor acting throughout a film, not poor script writing or poor direction.

I like to think its similar to Jane Austen's books.

The Shawshank Redemption isnt a very ambitious film - it has a very straightforward emotional arc, cliche setting and so on. But what it does do, it does with a very rare level of technical perfection that is exceptional. The dialogue, the pacing, the characters are all textbook.

In the same way Jane Austen only ever wrote about a very limited scope - being a woman in 1800s British society - but did it perfectly, technique and writing wise.
