I think it's a neat reference to Alien3.

If you were a true Alien fan like myself you'd know that one of the genius things about Alien was that you did not know who was the main character and who was gonna live and who was gonna die and by having the biggest star (after Michael Fassbender as David) die in the beginning you know Ridley Scott isn't playing by the rules and that everything you thought you knew about filmmaking means nothing.
