I thought the appeal of this podcast is that you GO INTO IT realizing that Joe is a dumb pseudo-intellectual doing his best to grasp whatever the fuck his guest is talking about?

Joe's the perfect host, partly because he is dumb. He's GENUINELY curious about what is being talked about. I'm not any smarter than Joe, and Joe's certainly not an idiot, but he's not a genius either. He's trying to understand what's going through his guests' heads, just like we are as the listeners. Being a little dumb is a good thing because it eases the conversation along.

The annoying thing is when Joe tries to steer the conversation to whatever HE wants to talk about, or not let the guest get their ideas out fully or whatever. That's annoying.

Why would he stay impartial? He said himself that he's not a journalist and he only brings people on to have conversations, there's no reason for him to not defend something he believes in. Also, I watched that podcast and I have to say, Shermer was being the typical leddit skeptic where his only "arguments" were "I can't really refute this, but I'm certain there's some mainstream™ science that can refute it"
