it actually had/has a sequel planned at some point with different characters taking place hundreds/thousands of years in the future. not sure what happened with that. hope this is just a shot per shot remake with some filler tbqh. the practical effects look just as good as they did in the original. god i hope they reuse the old voice clips instead of hiring new voice actors for the most part. the voices were an integral part of the characters.

It's a prequel, it will probably take place 1000 years before the original film when the Skeksis splintered the crystal and genocided the Gelflings. There's a lot of content they could make off of that premise since there were a lot more Skeksis, Gelflings, and probably other races back then.
