The mission of /lbg/ is to promote the intelligent discussion of film as art by providing members with opportunities for intellectual discussion, by recognizing patrician taste through examinations and by calling out embryos as they arise.

Will Michael Mann's use of Audioslave in Collateral and Miami Vice date the films in the future?
>News
Fuck your news.

Remember the following:
>Patricians occasionally read these generals and have posted here before.
>Patricians may pretend to be normal users asking for recommendations and when you recommend something, they laugh at you for your plebian taste
>This is a thread for patrician purposes only don't offer or expect frivolous discussion.
You've all heard this before....*ahem* - Once I had a fortune. It said "leave now, life is short, time is luck."
Anyways, this is like - still the peak of digital photography in movies? NOTHING else looks like this. This is one of the most lyrical, abstract and oblique films to come out of Hollywood. German expressionism gone digital - of course this puzzled many when it first came out, Mann is like a silent filmmaker here - pictures tell us a story before actors do. Moods are denoted by shades of colours in neon. And whole pools, waves of emotions revealed by the near-abstraction in the formations of a cloud.
The last time we see Farrell prior to the last shot, he performs like a confused puppy (this performance has the saddest eyes in all cinema). But the last shot is still so much more heartbreaking - returning to work, his stride...like nothing ever happened.
ALSO - doesn't this make a great paring with Bridges of Madison County?
"Luck ran out.....it was too good to last."

Just for the record: I loved Collateral and Miami Vice. I love Michael Mann. I like Chris Cornell's music as much as the next guy, but when will Michael Mann realize that not everybody would suck Chris Cornell's dick if they could, like he obviously does? Both in Collateral and Miami Vice, crucial scenes are robbed of their power because we have to hear Cornell's fuckin' voice? Why?
I understand that Mann is a genius and all geniuses have their flaws. Hell, if I made movies they would also be filled with music that me and a few other people like, but can't people stand up to him and a studio level and say, "Put an original score here, it will make the scene so much more powerful!" ? It's sad, because the original scores for Collateral and Miami Vice were really good.
Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest.

It's absolutely kino, the opening scene with Linkin Park scene. It's lika fucking motherfucking time travel to 00s, it truly transforms and shows life through cinema.

I thought the structure was pretty great, Burt's performance heartbreaking, and phenomenal camera work, but the ending was overwrought and sentimental. It's not 5 stars, come to think of it. Got too excited.

A person's views aren't static and can change all the time. Even within the span of 45 minutes :P
The Alien franchise was a mistake. There should never have been anything else after the first Alien. It was a perfect self contained film with just enough mystery to really make you think y'know. Ridley scott must be stopped.

Mann's got his problems, but he is a genius. He does sometimes that few directors can do, he can take a metropolis and make it look as beautiful as Malick can a forest.
