Holy shit, how did I miss this kino all these years?

You were prolly born after it came out

Decent, but extremely overrated. I'm not going to go through all the reasons. Just look at the lowest scoring reviews on Metacritic and I'm sure they're reasons for straying from the crowd will be as valid as any.
I thought the same thing when I watched it for the first time a couple years ago.
It's really one of those movies you watch only once a year.
Good soundtrack
Thora Birch was 16 when this was shot
Thora is basically the same in real life as the persona she was typecast as on screen. This is why she was hot around 2000 and then fell off the face of the earth. Couldn't get work.
Check out ghost world

Now she's an escort and she lets saudis shit on her face.
Is Kevin Spacey gay?
Asking for a friend...

god damn i wish that was me

It depends, are you under 20 and male?
>>82848301
No but I was 20 when this movie came out and was in love with Mena.
What happened to her?
>>82847364
The plot twist that she's actually a virgin is utterly unbelievable. No way any girl at that age is. And the hamfisted cliche that the homophobe is in fact in the closet was too low-effort. If it weren't for Kevin Spacey and the most beautiful shot ever depicted in cinema (the bag in the wind, of course), this film would be entirely inconsequential. Doesn't even rank in my top 1000.

wilted i guess

This is decent bait. You get a gold star.
>>82848545
It's not bait. In case you didn't get it, I was being sarcastic about Kevin Spacey and the bag - the film is in fact entirely inconsequential, a minor portrayal of the all-too well-known themes and motifs surrounding American suburbs, midlife crises, with, as I mentioned, a sprinkling of forced sexual commentary. Watch more film, is all I can recommend.
