The scene where Ripley saves Newt, runs into that egg chamber and it spends like a whole minute of just her looking around and seeing that massive eggsack spouting from this huge spider-like xenomorph was pretty creepy. But the scare factor quickly wears off because its an action movie.

Not particularly, it's just an interestingly-designed alien monster.

I feel like revealing that the alien from the original film acts in accordance with something familiar, such as an ant nest, as well as adding in a "final boss" alien like the Queen, might have retroactively poisoned the original's charm.
