Pretty sure Chevy threw a bitch fit about being flanderized into a racist antagonizer rather than a wise, out of touch old man with no filter, he was only on the show for the writing, didn't need the paycheck seeing as he's retired now, and everyone agrees his character took the earliest nosedive in terms of writing.

Yeah, he said something along the line of "Why don't you just have me sit them on my lap and call them little niggers" and everyone got all offended at him saying nigger even though he was just criticizing the turn his character indeed had taken

Pierce got ruined in season 2, Abed and Britta in season 3, the rest suffered season 4 onwards. Troy not as much because he got out early s5 and Shirley stayed fairly consistent I suppose but outside of her moments with Jeff she was least interesting character usually anyways.
