The Lucas prequels were awful but you could sort of see what he was aiming at, even if he misfired terribly. There's one thing everyone forgets when discussing how much of a mary sue Rey is:

Everyone likes her for no reason.

That's literally the trademark of a mary sue. Exactly how many times in the movie Rey has to prove herself to someone? Never. Han likes her, Leia likes her, Finn likes her, Kylo crushes over her, Snoke wants to train her, by the end the whole resistance is cheering for her. Rey doesn't have to make the effort to make people trust her because everyone she comes in contact with instantly likes her and she never, for once, has to earn their trust.

I mean forget for a minute all her bullshit skills. No character has any reason to instantly act like she's an old friend. One of the reasons TFA was so uncompelling was that every character wanted Rey in one way or another, even though she is a newcomer and has done nothing to deserve this VIP treatment from the rest of the cast.

I said the Prequels were poorly done. By the end of the Sequels we saw Anakin become Darth Vader and we saw how Palpatine turned a Senate controlled Republic, into an Empire. We saw How Sidious afforded the Death Star. So by the third film's credits, it was all told logically and cohesively.

Contrast that to the force awakens. The Separatist and Banking Clans afforded the First Death Star, the second was paid for by the Empire, How did the First Order build a Ten times larger Death Star without The Separatist, because they were all dead, and the Empire because it returned to a Republic?

The Phantom Menace was also believably told, and the only extra ability Anakin had was a superb control of Prescience, and even with that, these abilities never made him more than a kid who could avoid danger. Compare Anakin to Rey. Her first movie, and she's more potentially powerful than every force user was in six movies.
