Being self aware and campy is not the same as forcing in terrible attempts at humor. OP here, I would rate Alien 3 (assembly cut) a 7.5/10. It has flaws but it's overall a good film. I don't get why so many people say it's a Resurrection tier mess. Even the theatrical cut is better than Resurrection.

I quite like it. Alien 1 is more interesting for it's historical value rather than it being a scary horror film. Aliens is a shitty action movie, Alien 3 is just weird, Resurrection is a shitty but enjoyable sci-fi flick. Bad, but it has that sort of cozy late at night watching a shitty movie on TV as a kid feeling.

I rewatched it for the first time in years not to long ago, and was blown away with how palpable the tension was. It's executed and paced so superbly that I was sore from how tense I was.
It really deserves to be watched in a dark room with a good sound system. I cant imagine how great it would have been to see this in the theater when it first released.

I had my own idea for an Alien sequel before Covenant came out. It would take place on a giant space station that is like Las Vegas in space and its run by a criminal mastermind and the gangs that are loyal to him.

One of these gangs would team up with Weyland-Yutani to take control of the space station so Weyland would provide the gang with xenomorph eggs and let them loose on the station causing mass panic and a sort of doomsday scenario a la Left 4 Dead

Maybe it was a shitty idea but its a better idea than splicing Sigourney Weaver's DNA with an alien or just remaking Alien for a second time

Jaws 3 and 4 are unoriginal exploitation flicks that didn't try to do anything thought provoking. Alien 3 is flawed but it has some interesting ideas and the acting is excellent. I hate Alien: Resurrection but it's more daring than Jaws 3 and 4 and some of the technical aspects of it are very impressive. The xenomorph costumes in Resurrection are perfect.
