> Justice League is apparently undergoing extensive reshoots, according to the Splash Report. All movies like this go through reshoots, but the problem that the report is presenting is that these aren’t the normal types of reshoots. These are reshoots similar to what happened to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story or Fantastic Four. Now, we should clarify that this is a rumor coming from the Splash Report but that they did break the Rogue One reshoots story which ended up being true. Still, they could be wrong, but considering the timeline it wouldn’t be surprising if it wasn’t wrong.

>"Speaking on a condition of anonymity, they said that in the 17 months between the start of principal photography and the final cut arriving in theaters in November that the film will have essentially been “remade…twice.”

People that think that if DCEU fails, it will means that they're going to get their beloved Bruce Timm JLU cartoon eventually on the big screen. There won't be a reboot. They'll just go back to only Batman movies (and the occasionally Superman movie that goes no where)and the same people will be making them so there will no difference in quality. This pretty much the only time WB is going to touch characters like Flash, Green Lantern, Shazam and Wonder Woman. Face it this is it.

Lets be objective please.

I loved MoS and BvS but since the first trailer of JL I knew it was going to be Reddit League: dawn of quipstice. We knew since the first trailer that the common critique was going to be: tries to be Marvel and fails miserably.

This is frankly...a good news. Maybe Snyder got some kind of leverage to lower down the amount of Marvel like comedy and introduce some snyderkino. Or maybe its just for a fixed extended cut. Anyways, the reshots are not a bad idea.

Most of the times the reshots are done to force the execs view on the movie, but that was forced since day one. Maybe, I hope, they are toning that shit down.

Regardless, it seems to be a clusterfuck where Snyder will take blame for just doing whatever he is forced to do. Frankly I cant even imagine how shittier the movies would be without his minimal influence.
>>
>>82825069

If I had to guess, they're making it more colorful and more quippy after Guardians 2 and the upcoming Thor movies. And probably adjusting for whatever bad pre-screenings going on with Wonder Woman.

In the last trailer it's really obvious that this movie will be mostly characters standing in front of a very obvious green screen background. Other than Bruce visiting Barry at his house or the sea village, the entire trailer was 3 people standing in front of a green screen with like two physical props scattered about. Expect Star Wars prequel levels of CG.

This is really the worst part about this whole thing. People with brain damage got hold of it and released a bunch of shitty movies. Now if the movie's a hit, we'll keep getting these shitty movies. If they flop, they'll decide people just don't like superhero movies(while desperately trying to ignore Marvel Studios existing) and it'll be decades before they try anything but more Batman.

You can already tell they're starting to move in this direction with pulling Whedon for Batgirl, and pushing Flash back for a fucking Harley Quinn movie.

To be honest, the quality of Marvel movies is irrelevant at this point. They're raking in billions a year on those movies alone, and DC is trying to compete with them. Good or bad, they are making metric boatloads of cash on superhero films and getting plenty of positive reviews, something WB has been struggling with for years. They've managed to turn a talking tree, a raccoon, and DANCE OFF BRO into bigger hit sensations than fucking Superman.

Marvel is also the standard for how to do the cinematic film universe meme that everyone's desperately trying to get into.
>>
>>82826505
>levels of CG

How is that any different from Marvel Avengers/Captain Fagmerica? Cunt
>>
>build DC universe as the cure for the common marvelflick
>fails to meet expectations (finantial, that is. it's obvious at this point they give no fucks about critical success)
>reshape the universe following on the steps of Marvel because they keep making bank
>DC will continue to struggle

To be fair DC would have trouble competing with Marvel even if they actually made good movies. But it's how they're reshaping movies on a whim that makes it clear they have no idea what they're doing, and that inspires mistrust in moviegoers.

How many times has /tv/ said that? How many times has it been true?

Remember when no film in the DCEU has ever broken a billion dollars, while Marvel's got four under their belt? You need to stretch all the way back to the totally unconnected Nolan trilogy to get billion-dollar movies. And even then you only get two.

Remember how, using that trilogy, Batman is a twice-proven billion-dollar franchise, and yet combining him with Superman, who is unarguably the most recognizable superhero on the planet, the movie couldn't even crack a billion?

Things look even worse on the review side of things. Man of Steel was at best tolerated by critics and audiences. BvS and Suicide Squad were eviscerated by both, and rightly so.

You don't have the reviews, you don't have the box office draw, which likewise means that you don't have the popular draw. All you have is some meme about "kino" that utterly lacks any kind of provability.

Marvel isn't afraid of the DCEU. The only thing it's afraid of is that the popular desire for cape movies will die out before Infinity War, but even if it does, that will hurt the DCEU at least as hard as the MCU.

More to the point, the thing that's likely to kill the popular desire for cape movies is bad cape movies. Something that the DCEU has thus far demonstrated itself to be an expert at.

Dude. I hate the DCEU BECAUSE I'm a DC fan. I'm that boring kid at school who's favorite super hero is Superman. I despise what Warner Brothers and Snyder have turned him into, how they have completely missed the point of his character.

Snyder's like the kind of guy who listened to Bill's speech about Superman in "Kill Bill vol. 2" and took it at face value as being true, forgetting that the guy who was saying it was the villain of the franchise, an objectively terrible person who'd tried to kill his wife.

>>82827750

I, too, love Batman & Robin in a "so bad it's good" sense. When watching it I like to pretend that the only live-action Batman prior to it was the 60s Batman TV series, and Batman & Robin was basically intended to be a 90s, "gritty" update to it. I mentally edit in the POW! WHAM! and so on.

Also I love Mr. Freeze's ice puns. I truly do.

Because he clearly didn't do a good job filming the movie the first time. You know how Directors are the ones who decide if the cinematographer and actors were able to put together something on film that met the director's vision of the movie? Well, Snyder was satisfied with what he got, and when he took what he got to WB, the execs weren't.
>>
>>82825211
You know, I watched Batman Forever and Batman & Robin for the first time in like, 15 years recently, and I have to say they're not nearly as bad as people make them out to be. They're pretty tongue-in-cheek about their campiness. As a kid I hated them because they were such a stark contrast to the Burton films which were my introduction to Batman, but looking back, there's inherently bad about them if you let them stand on their own. Well, except Uma Thurman. Bitch drags down every scene she's in.

And obviously I'm not saying this would absolve JL from being the same thing because that's clearly not the direction the films are trying to go in.

>I'm not saying this would absolve JL from being the same thing because that's clearly not the direction the films are trying to go in.
Ironically, I think going for the tone of BaR might be perfect for a Justice League movie.
>>
>>82825892
You know, I'm okay with the current DCEU, but I recognize that executive meddling is compromising pretty much every film in the wake of Suicide Squad...

But even if the whole thing crashes and burns, at least it then has the chance to be build into something else that could be great, wheres the MCU is pretty much forced to remain formulaic, mediocre shit or risk losing their mass appeal, which Disney would never allow at this point.
>>
>>82826505
Who... cares? Seriously, why does it matter if they don't film at an actual location? I've never understood that.
>>
>>82826148
This. I just wish the meddling had been less-apparent, even with his stuff. It's pretty clear they were forced in BvS to stave off the controversial reception MoS got, and it's even more apparent that JL was lightened up a ton in order to appease all the people that got triggered by how bleak BvS was.

Doesn't surprise me. After everyone missed the point of Batman v Superman while worthless shlock like Suicide Squad became a cultural phenomenon it's clear they're not gonna give Snyder and Terrio control over their movie. How dare they try to create something artistic? Let's rather have a bunch of second rate Batman villains run around a ruined city, cracking bad jokes and fighting a demon or something.
>>
>>82827037
1.) Because Martian Manhunter is too campy, obscure, and similar to Superman
2.) He was in the JL comic reboot as of 2011
3.) His tech-based abilities actually make him a really useful member of the team in a modern setting
4.) He's pretty popular thanks to Teen Titans
5.) He's black

I'm not nuts about how he looks, but if the DCEU sticks around long enough to expand upon the bromance he had with Shazam in the recent comics, it will all be worth it.

>>82828199
>John Stewart's Green Lantern would be a much more solid choice for this movie
I agree, but Green Lantern is probably seen as box office poison. Also Cyborg's origin including the Mother Box makes him a more organic (kek) character to fit into the movie than taking time to properly introduce the concept of the Green Lantern Corps, which should rightly have its own film.
>>

Like I said - Silver Age Superman might be the exception, but what's important to remember is that virtually no other Silver Age heroes killed, either. Any deaths were either presented as "tragic accidents" or criminals "choosing" death out of pride, incompetence/their own folly, with the hero unable to prevent it.

It was the height of the CCA restrictions that writers spent the better part of two decades mocking through the camp that pervaded most comics being made at the time.

Superman was cavalier in the Golden Age because everyone was. But the Silver Age is where most comic book characters got their characters truly defined. After the Silver Age, Superman has still generally done everything in his power to avoid killing people. More importantly, he goes to unbelievable lengths to ensure that there are no civilian casualties. His first priority when someone like Zod shows up is to get them OUT OF THE CITY.

I don't blame Superman for killing Zod in Man of Steel the way he did. I blame the writers for forcing him into such a stupid situation in the first place for the sake of cheap drama.

That might be symbolism, but it's not subtle.

You know what's subtle? Superman lifting an island of green-K that's almost certainly going to kill him, because if he doesn't sacrifice himself to remove it from the Earth then billions of people are going to die. In the end he lifts his burden and removes it from the Earth, but not before a jagged piece of kryptonite pierces his heart.

There. There's some Biblical symbolism without it being mind-numbingly blatant.

I honestly think they should have gone with either Jon Stewart as Green Lantern, or Static Shock.

They're already planning to make a Green Lantern Corps film, so DC obviously isn't afraid to use the character. The Corps has an obvious reason to send Stewart to Earth, as Darkseid is considered to be a threat to the universe in general. Not only that, but the Jon Stewart incarnation is the one most fans are familiar with, due to the Justice League cartoon.

Static Shock would hit two bird with one stone, drawing in fans who liked the 2000's cartoon AND younger audiences. Sure, you could say Erza Miller's Flash does this, but I feel like the comedic chemistry between Flash and Static would be god-tier banter. You could say something like "A Motherbox caused the Big Bang Incident in Dakota City, and all the Bang Babies are caused by Apokalyptian technology" or something. It wouldn't be too hard to tie in.

Sure, Cyborg was popular in Teen Titans, and sure his origin in the DCCU ties in rather nicely with the Darkseid storyline. However, his character isn't as defined; Titans Cyborg and comics Cyborg may as well be different characters.

Also, the CGI on Cyborg from the trailers looks like fucking trash.

I actually think that a mashup of Man of Steel and Superman Returns would be the ideal Superman movie.

1) It's still a reboot
2) Set the movie so that Superman has already been openly Superman for a few years now. People are still somewhat wary of him, but warming up to him.
3) Flashbacks can be used to go over Krypton's destruction, the death of Pa Kent BY HEART ATTACK, etc.
4) Make a few allusions to Luthor, but he's not in the movie.
5) Zod and the Kryptonians show up for reasons outlined in MoS, which plays out basically like MoS, except that Lois isn't immediately rescued from them. Superman is badly injured.
6) Krpytonians move ahead with their xenoforming plan, only instead of a giant spider and gravity machine it's the island-growing stuff.
7) Superman, while injured, goes to the growing island and battles it out with the Kryptonians, who are starting to gain superpowers. The island has all sorts of mountains and canyons and stuff so there can be immense destruction shown, but no one actually lives there so there isn't thousands of deaths.
8) Lois (with help from holographic Jor-El why not) opens the Phantom Zone Projector in space. Having subdued the Kryptonians, Superman starts to lift the island to throw it into the portal, and manages to do so (Lois getting away in an escape pod or something). The portal starts to slowly close.
>>
What scenes were reshot for Rogue One? They weren't as noticeable as F4.
>>
>>82832411
>They weren't as noticeable as F4.

Because they reshot 80% of the movie
>>
>>82832397

9) A WILD ZOD APPEARS. Wasn't sucked into the portal (which is established to be one-way), starts duking it out with Superman in the sky as Lois' pod falls out of control. Superman has to split time between trying to save Lois and trying to stop Zod, which means Zod has the upper hand even though Superman is MUCH stronger (due to years of absorbing yellow sunlight rather than days).
10) Lois' pod is safely set down in the ocean somewhere, Superman can turn his full attention on Zod. The fight goes up into space. Zod promises that he will do all sorts of terrible things to Earth, seriously injured Superman somehow (maybe he has a Kryptonite knife?), but Superman still pushes him into the Phantom Zone just as the portal closes.
11) Superman falls to Earth, lands near Metropolis, is taken to a hospital but the people there can't do anything to save him because he's invulnerable (a la the scene in Returns)
12) We see millions of people watching on TV or crowding around the hospital hoping to learn if Superman is alright - people finally trust him. Lois visits his comatose form in the hospital.
13) 3 days later, Superman is mysteriously absent from the hospital, at least until he shows up at some disaster to help prevent it.
14) Movie closes with him flying into space with the sun in the background, smiling at the camera.
15) John William's Superman March plays for the first time in the movie during the ending scene and credits, letting us know that while this is a reboot, it's still following in the traditions of its predecessors.
>>
>>82827404
27%? If this were a quality movie there'd be more positive ratings surely?
>>
>>82831524
Didn't you see him try? Zod had no interest in chasing him anywhere. Zod was going to take it back to a population center every chance he got, because his goal wasn't killing Clark. It was getting killed *by* him.

Shallow symbolism is when it only tells you what the director wants you to think about the characters. More artful symbolism is when it's there to tell you what the *characters* are thinking.

>>
>>82832504 >>82832397
Oh, the sequel involves Braniac, who is coming to Earth because he had intended to assimilate the technology and knowledge of Krypton (which is more advanced than his own), but reached the planet just as it exploded and after only assimilating a single city (Kandor). The explosion badly damaged Braniac's ship and Braniac himself, so he's spent most of the past few decades repairing it, then heading towards Earth, since Superman is now the only source of Kryptonian knowledge and technology.

Kind of similar to what Zod and the Kryptonians wanted in the first one, unfortunately, but it's the only way I can think of to meaningfully involve Braniac without doing something stupid like making him be developed on Earth. Maybe the thing that sets this movie apart is that we include some of the other Justice League members in major roles. Wonder Woman, perhaps.

We meet Luthor for the first time and establish that he's an asshole and has already had a few run-ins with Superman, but Luthor doesn't himself do anything in the movie. Except maybe hijack some of Braniac's technology.

The first Justice Leauge movie is Starro the Conqueror, not Darkseid. Jesus fuck who's idea was it to skip straight to Darkseid and Apokalips. Where do you GO from there?

The third Superman movie is Luthor being Luthor and doing Luthor-type things. Maybe a rough parallel of his plan in All-Star Superman (gaining superpowers for himself), except without him being in jail or a known criminal at the start. Superman beats him, of course.

The second Justice League movie is Doomsday, because at this point Superman has finally been around long enough to justify killing him for audience shock value.

The third Justice Leauge movie is Darkseid and Apokalips. Superman returns in it.

There, look, I'm a better writer than anyone in the DCEU.

>Yeah, real subtle of Singer, right?

I don't know whether or not this was sarcasm, but I actually will say that it was certainly more subtle than anything Snyder pulled off. Superman in Superman Returns has the space Jesus pose, yes, but only after letting go of the island of green-K and starting to fall. It's a natural pose for someone to end up in, presuming that they had just lifted an island and carried it into space.

Whereas Snyder has Superman just lift his arms up into a cross pose and fall for no apparent reason other than to hit us over the head with a +5 Holy Hammer.

All there to drive home a thene first introduced all the way back at the beginning of Man of Steel - under the right circumstances, anything can become a god, even science. Anything can become an object of worship.

When people look at Clark, they interpret him through their own filter - sometimes a savior deity, sometimes a sun deity, sometimes a sky deity. Lex mentions three other examples by name.

Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad's production cycles are proof that it's actually Warner Bros' fault. I think most agree the Ultimate Edition was fine enough and definitely a step up from the theatrical cut.

Point is, quit blaming Snyder. Warner is interfering and there's proof of this.

The problem is those guys aren't characters, either. They are just costumea and powers. DC characters have no personality. And Watchmen ain't DC proper, so don't even try.

Blatant reminder that Marvel and Disney shills continue to go out of their way to make their competitor look like shit in anyway possible.

But WB is already making the franchise look like shit, Disney doesn't need to do anything.

>Do the suits in the movie studios really have egos that big?
Its not ego, they're protecting a half billion dollar investment. They answer to a board of directors, shareholders, and investors.
You don't make tentpole movies with budgets like that to break even.

Hope they'll add some scenes of Flash getting pounded into the floor. That's the only thing that'd get me interested in this shitshow.

if they reshoot it does this mean that they will make cyborg look more like cyborg and less like iron man

It's almost like demanding to be taken seriously through 3 movies might lead to tonal whiplash when you try dropping quips That feel out of place in the shared world you've been building.

Michael Keaton's 1989 Batman was essentially a serial killer and that was the best screen Batman ever.

You do know that the island of kryptonite was made with Jor-El's crystals, symbolizing God's word being turned into the corrupt Catholic Church. The end was basically Superman taking lifting the Catholic Church and throwing it at the heavens.

Fuck, you even Lex posing as Rome/Pope piercing Superman's left side much like Christ and later Superman resurrecting three days later.
