I wish we got to see more of Junior's crew in the show, sometimes I wish season 1 were two seasons so we could also have more of Jackie Sr. as the boss (culminating with his death at the end of the 1st season and Junior taking the reins, with the conflicts popping up in season 2).
Oh well, they did their best with what they had and it was still a great season.

What's everyone's thoughts on the passage of time in The Sopranos? It's one of the only shows I could think of that episodes seem to take place in the span of months at a time. And then you get episodes like Whoever Did This which mostly take place over one day.
>>82825006
I generally feel like each episode covers about a week of time, on average
>>82825059
That's a fair average. But I keep thinking about Kaisha which takes place from the end of summer to Christmas, and also The Second Coming which had to span a few weeks at least.
>>82825110
and on the other hand you have Funhouse which covers a period of about 24 hours, Tony goes to dinner, gets sick, wakes up the next day, kills Pussy, is arrested, and then makes bail and goes home, episode ends
>>82825155
It's really amazing how much happens over the course of an episode
>>82824979
I just finished it yesterday.
I feel like watching it from the start now, since I can't see anything else topping it.The last couple of episodes are GOAT. Literally every scene (the entire show for that matter) is important, especially in those last couple.
>>82826530
Blue Comet is one of the greatest TV episodes of all time
>>82826670
the last four episodes of 6B are so suffocatingly dark. everything is so grey and haggard, it literally feels like you're watching the show die before your eyes.
>>82826715
Yeah, season 6 in general was very morbid and quite depressing.
>>82823335
that actually really meant something to junior. in the last scene where tony goes to visit him in the asylum anthony asks if he remembers him and he says 'we used to play catch together'
>>82826874
>>82826715
Thus ending and song choice are just excellent.
https://youtu.be/rBcbc8eWz6U
Finished the show myself the other day.
Spent 6 or so hours of my time since then reading an essay as to why Tony Soprano got killed in the finale. Pretty much convinced me 100%.
>>82827474
I liked Matt Weiner's take on the end, there's three endings for a guy like Tony, dead, in the can, or he gets off, and the ending basically combined them all into one
>dead - Members Only Guy
>in prison - Carlo's testimony
>gets off - we never see the other two become reality
It's also partly a "fuck you". A mic drop. David Chase was done, so the show was over. That's it.
>>82827579
I don't think it is a "fuck you" as such. I like the theory that this is Schrodinger's Tony but there are too many obvious hints that he died.
Symbolism, framing, camera work, the wall behind Tony in the last scene being painted by Chase and team...just too obvious when the evidence is actually laid out.
However, as to who actually killed him I'm still unsure - NY crew sounds the most plausible, but I hear some lame Paty Parisi theory being held up that doesn't hold much weight.
I wonder though...if and when Carlo does testify, does that really guarantee Tony is fucked?
>>82827652
"Grand Jury testimony" and "indictments being handed down" probably mean Tony's long-building RICO case is going to be brought to court, if Carlo has been flipped then I don't know who else they'd want him to provide information on other than the boss of his crew.
>>82827652
My problem with "Tony dies" diehards is the the fact that for the M.O.G. to be the hitter there he'd be breaking all the rules of a hit with how long he takes. Every other public hit in the show, on Bobby, Phil, Gerry, shows the assassin walking in, shooting them as soon as they can, and then leaving, not going to the bathroom or hanging around any longer than necessary. It's just too weird and non-committal.
>>82827721
I got the impression their evidence was always paper thin but yeah, the show did indicate he was going to go through something similar to what Junior experienced.
>>82827805
Could be his first hit?
>>82827835
I've always thought the fact that he looks like a splitting image of Johnny Boy and the fact that he does the famous Godfather walk to the bathroom is supposed to be symbolic of Tony's father being the gangster in him, and how his influence will never leave, it was there in the first scene of the show, and the last.
>>82827805
I think it's because it's his first hit.
With the fact that he goes to the toilet, kinda like the godfather.
>>82827805
He needed a clear shot of Tony, not to mention maybe he was studying him to make sure he was really Tony.
The camera focuses on him when he gets up to the bathroom which is a major hint right there. Also if Tony didn't die the screen would've faded to black rather than a quick cut to black which indicates that he's dead
>>82827942
I have my doubts that to take out a boss they'd give the job to a first-timer. Seems too risky. my issue with it also is that it's way too visually literal for Chase, who created a show that thrived and lived in ambiguities. The way that the shot of him walking to the bathroom is so clearly tracked is a red herring to me.
>>82827952
That's why Meadow's absence is so important to that scene. He wouldn't of had a clear shot if she was sat beside Tony, but she's missing and he can shoot via a 3 o'clock angle.
It also ties into Season 6a's introduction where the song claims Meadow is Tony's guardian. She saved him from his shooting, but Tony ran out of chances here.
>>82827952
Not that anon but in the episode where Bobby and Tony are fishing Bobby says when you die it's just a blank not like your life flashing before your eyes.Great thread to read before I go to work.
>>82828044
>the episode where Bobby and Tony
IKR? I love Sopranos discussions. I went to plebbit to check it out but it's fucking turd some of the analysis there.
>>82828044
"You probably don't even hear it when it happens" coming from Bobby was always ironic to me since his death disproved that being an absolute truth. He went down in a hail of gunfire, and DEFINITELY heard it.

Silvio tells Tony that he didn't know what happened until after the bullet was fired when his friend was killed next to him
Tony has a flashback in the episode before to Bobby telling him "You don't even hear it when it happens" (The Sopranos rarely featured flashbacks)
Phil is shot in the head in the same episode right in front of his family when he's completely off guard.
These small bits all point to Tony's death

It really speaks to what Chase was trying to say with it, really.
>I thought the ending would be somewhat jarring, sure. But not to the extent it was, and not a subject of such discussion. I really had no idea about that. I never considered the black a shot. I just thought what we see is black. The ceiling I was going for at that point, the biggest feeling I was going for, honestly, was don't stop believing. It was very simple and much more on the nose than people think. That's what I wanted people to believe. That life ends and death comes, but don't stop believing. There are attachments we make in life, even though it's all going to come to an end, that are worth so much, and we're so lucky to have been able to experience them. Life is short. Either it ends here for Tony or some other time. But in spite of that, it's really worth it. So don't stop believing.
