You have not watched Blue Velvet closely enough if you do not think there are not new things to notice every time. The theme of voyeurism, the way the main character sublimates his urges with Sandy onto Dorothy, the way the second half of the movie parallels the first half, how Ben serves as a male version of the sexy singer, the way Frank has the light on his forehead when he beats up Jeffery who shoots him in the same spot (third eye), and of course the soundtrack, which may well be the greatest film soundtrack of all time.

It's a more passionate, and abusive movie than Mulholland Drive, while I do like how MD covers more genre tropes, theres just more power to Blue Velvet.

Also, the biggest theme of the movie is the lack of understanding and ambiguity. Certain elements exist outside of understanding, like the propeller hat, the mechanical bird at the end, the similarity of the breathing tube of Jeffery's father and Frank's nitrous, the yellow man standing after being shot, the meaning of the ear and the similarity of ears to the labia.

This isn't the Coen Bros.' best movie imo (that goes to Fargo which I can also go back to at almost any time) but this is the one I find myself able to watch over and over, and enjoy it as much as I did the first time. There's just something about the characters, the setting, the atmosphere, the music, it is all just so astoundingly comfy that I can't help but smile and enjoy myself whenever I watch it

I couldn't say, its really fucking comfy for starters.

Also the humor and dialog is structured in a way that doesn't rely on shock and novelty, but is just enjoyable in its own right. The fact you can quote the whole damn movie as its playing actually adds to the enjoyment somehow, plus the visual effects are still pretty solid after all these years.

Adam and Barbara are cute together, Lydia is qt loli waifu, everyone in the cast contributes somehow to the flick.

And the score is perfect, from Elfman to Belafonte. You just couldn't execute the premise any better.

I used to watch Scarface over and over again as a kid and by age 12 I knew every single line of dialogue and now I'm at the point where I just watch it ironically as a comedy and over analyze everything in the film and meme about it like an autist with my friend who also obsesses over the movie too.
