They’re both literally George Lucas prequel—tier movies: telling stories no one wanted to be told, and expanding on thing nobody wanted to be expanded upon. Ridley now even has his own “midichlorian” meme plot device in form of black goo.

That's what happens when you're a technically competent director, but the real creative force behind you is your production team. So when you try to revisit your iconic movie without that creative collaboration, this is what happens.

It's weird for me but thinking about it I never connected Prometheus to the Alien universe. I know it sounds retarded but to me it's its own thing that doesn't really play into anything really Alien related. Same with Alien: Covenant. I know they are both part of the same universe but when I think of Alien I think of four movies and that's it. It's like Prometheus and A:C aren't really there. Anyone else think like that?

Probably a conflict with the set designer and the environmental designer. The central city's clearly modelled after St. Peter's as a nod to human artistic achievement and going back to David, but there had to be a plot reason that the Covenant couldn't just land on the planet. I don't think the Engineers created the Goo. I think the whole theme of Prometheus is that the Engineers stole it from who ever created them, hence keeping the vials in rooms with big face status of their 'Gods'. Then humans steal it from the Engineers and the Prometheus legend carries on.

Prometheus is better (despite the dumbness at points) and a genuinely good hard sci-fi movie, but Alien Covenant is fun. I'm glad it's more of a sequel to Prometheus than a prequel to Alien.

Still, it's time they stop writing characters that walk in alien planets without a fucking helmet on, which literally triggers all problems every single time.

That's the problem. There is no movie redemption. When I give up 2 hours of my life I expect to walk away satisfied with the product I've just watched.

Hollywood is trying to do le cliff hanger bullshit because they saw it worked so well for tv shows. People don't actually want good viewing; they want an escape from reality. The longer that escape, the better.

Which is why Prometheus is a dog shit movie. It didn't answer anything. All it did was show that no matter how shit each installment, people will return to the theaters over and over just because of their nostalgia for the motifs from the films they've enjoyed.

Of course, nothing is ever actually concluded with these "franchises". They simply go in circles forever or 'up the stakes' right when you think things can't possibly get any more outrageous.

Really, David the android wiping out an entire civilization? What the fuck? Do yourselves a favor and don't see covenant in theaters. None of your questions will ever be fully answered. Ridley Scott has no idea what he's doing, and a lot of the fan theories on this board are probably more intricate and detailed than anything you'll see in the actual movies.
