Not really. Saying the eagles don't care about Middle-earth isn't really accurate. Their domain was just as threatened by Sauron's forces just as much as anyone else's. Just because the plot of the story focuses on the events in Gondor and Mordor doesn't mean there wasn't a lot of shit going down elsewhere.
