They were treating her tumor so that's why she lasted so long.

Top tier cape film, minor complaint would be the insistent need to undercut emotional plot beats with cynical quips, it's effective almost everyone on the crew is overcompensating, but gets a little grating, as does a bit of Drax's characterization in that he's only played for laughs which don't always land. Everything else felt like a cosmic crossover/run on screen, very good.

I know it was a bad movie. That's what I'm saying. It was like 30 minutes total of 10/10 Kurt Kino separated by 2 fucking hours of "girl talk(tm)" by the most unlikable cunts imaginable.

It's like a gemstone hidden in a bucket of shit. It'd be great if someone recut the movie so that it's just the bare minimum girl talk bullshit.

The idea was that the tumor would kill her after Peter was born, since it usually takes a while. He probably figured out the math well enough, that by the time she died Peter would already be born and somewhat grown.

He had two driving factors- his love for StarMom, and his purpose. He had to choose one, and he chose purpose.

His purpose would have kill her anyways later on, and remember he wanted to run away from that. Killing her well before was the only way to "cleanly" accomplish that in his mind, you can tell when he tries to explain his reasoning before Peter starts shooting.

Yeah, comics have been doing it wrong for the last 60 years and the films based on them should distance themselves from an inarguably popular oart of the comics themselves.

Seriously, who the fuck would read spiderman if every month there's a new asshole with green face paint. Or Batman with a different clown themed villain who is not the joker every month.

Also the fact that Loki is one of the most well received villains if not characters in the MCU strictly because hes been developed over multiple films.

Kill yourself.

It's still a storytelling medium. And the yin to the heros yang is the villains. Without strong, set up and explored villains (something you cannot achieve easily in one single film) it just becomes boring and predictable.

I like Drax. His brutally honest character is refreshing and it makes his emotional moments touching. All his scenes with Mantis, all the reminders of his daughter, and that pain he still feels culminate in that one shot of him holding her body above his head in a desperate attempt to keep her alive for as long as possible. It's a pretty decent character arc. I do agree with you on the snark undercutting serious moments to be a bit annoying.

If these movies were standalone, not backed by the whole MCU, they'd probably be this generation's Star Wars. The first was a light-hearted action-comedy about a mcguffin that received overwhelming critical praise for the breath of fresh air it breathed into the lifeless superhero genre. Arguably one of the most original blockbusters of recent years - and I don't mean the story or anything, but just the style of it.

The second film is more character-driven and packs in emotion to build up the characters while not really sticking to an overall plot. It's getting mixed reviews from critics but, in retrospect years from now, will probably be considered the best of the three eventual films.

Of course, having Infinity War and not having Vol.2 really lead into a second sequel differentiates it a bit, but I think if there were one more movie after this it'd be a tightly packed trilogy. You may not like some of the jokes or think they're reddit: the movies, but when I watch these films I get the same feeling someone in 1977 probably did when they saw Star Wars. The biggest difference is that instead of ground-breaking special effects it's just bringing a new type of style and humor to a generally sterile genre (blockbusters in general, not just capeshit).
>>
>>82774858

They'll probably appear briefly in Thor: Ragnarok

But even if they don't show up there, they're slated to show up in Infinity War. I don't know how that will affect the plot of Vol.3. It might actually be a good thing because it will get Thanos out of the way and let Vol 3 focus on something else, but if Vol.3 references stuff that happened in infinity war then you can't really get the entire GotG saga out of just the films - you'd need to the context from Infinity War too which kinda sucks
>>

Loki isn't just a villain, though. He plays both sides, and is integral to Thor. He's much more essential than people like Ronan or Kiseilius.

On the one hand, that's good, but considering how tied up Thanos is in Gamorra and Nebula's backstory, if you were watching these movies without the context of the MCU, you'd think he's being built up as the big bad of the final film.

Not at all. Infinity War and Avengers 4 (to be named later) will be ~5 hours long together. The stated goal is to give Thanos his proper development (a little late, but better than nothing) in addition to saying goodbye to the Avengers and using the GotG to help save the universe, one more time. We'll see if it comes all together.

I expect the Russos to have Gunn on hand to make sure characterization is right. If they did it with Peyton Reed/Antman, surely they'll do the same with Gunn/Guardians.

The whole movie was kino. It's not even capeshit, it's just an old fashioned summer blockbuster.

>Legitimately funny
Most scenes with Rocket. Best character.

>Awkward
Taserface. It was kind of worth the payoff of Sovereign laughing at it at the end, but they REALLY milked it before that point.
>>
>>82768872
Do you think that Rocket ever makes the crew angry because his feet get stinky haha

i bet his paws are really soft despite walking around barefoot all day haha
>>
>>82768810
It's okay when Marvel does it.

No, really. When DC does this it's shit.

>legitimately funny
>SHE JUST TOLD EVERYONE YOUR DEEPEST DARKEST SECRETS. YOU MUST BE SO EMBARRASSED
>the post-credit scene where the second-in-command guy accidently impales Drak with the arrow
>I think your hideous
>most scenes with Rocket
>most scenes with Drax

>Awkward
>Pacman
>Taserface (except the last one)
>some of their attempts at shoehorning in the music

>Movie has to turn him into a giant pussy apropos of nothing so the roasties can beat him
>>
>>82773944
Legit
>I'm gonna build some weird shit!

bad idea
>that entire ending fight scene
Even with not having Pac-man it still felt WAY out of place given the rest of the movie. The MoS flying around felt really forced to make it seem EBIC, they could have gone a little smaller and it would be okay.
>>
>>82778886
Pac man was the only part I didn't like. I think the last fight could have been more creative. Have Peter makes some constructs or something
>>
>>82768872
what a goofy question hahah lol. your such a weirdo anon
>>
>>82778886
>The MoS flying around felt really forced to make it seem EBIC

This, it didn't make much sense because how did Peter even know he could fly around and put rocks around his body? I figured all he knew was that he could construct stuff out of the earth and light.
>>
>>82779067
I would've kept it as a regular fistfight with elemental powers thrown in at the end, but nothing too crazy.
>>
>>82768872
It's a James Gunn movie so yeah definitely.
>>
>>82768839
he loved her. i'm sure he loved a lot of the women he fucked. But he didn't care about her and that's why he put the tumor in her. Actaully, that's the biggest thing that separated yondu from ego. He not only loved peter but he cared about him. Even in the first movie it was hinted that peter screwed him over many times yet he forgave him every time.
I actually like this movie a lot because its the one time that the actual father is heartless asshole and the step dad is the only one who ever gave a shit
>>
>>82774087
>movie uses tons of big name critically acclaimed actors
>this automatically makes it a bad movie

Only on /tv/.
>>
>>82768935
Gettin' reaaalll tired of this shit.

The human body Ego created is not in fact Ego. Ego is Ego at the core of the "planet". What we see is a representation of what Ego views as "humanity" or at least the parts he cared to see. While that particular splinter of consciousness may have dissipated in time it would only do that because it has no... psychological or spiritual inertia. It doesn't have those because it isn't a real consciousness.

how many layers of irony are you on though

These movies are going to go down like the 5th element

>I actually like this movie a lot because its the one time that the actual father is heartless asshole

Have you seen it with your wife's son?
>>
Or hey maybe, just a crazy idea, you don't make the unstoppable, omnipotent physical manifestation of Ego a bad guy your heroes must defeat.

Maybe you just make him a part of the story and use him as a series of hurdles and hoops to jump through to showcase what you should actually focus your story on (hint: it's your main cast that's your focus). Then you could actually develop The Sovereign as a real threat instead of just some pissed off nerds.

WHOA THERE EASY DOES IT BOYO.
>>
>>82778629
It's shit because people try to claim it as also being kino, you can't have your cake and eat it DC boy
>>
>>82780649
Imagine what the movie would have been like if they didn't have to setup the entire goddamn thing so that the Guardians could defeat Ego.

>Mantis seems less shoehorned as a plot device
>Ego still existing for future use
>Further exploration into Quill psyche
>Cut dumb Gamorra/Quill fight
>No muh tumor shit
>Movie gains emotional depth
>Get an ending that makes any sense at all

>Lost 4channer sees an actual post

Tony Stark is a fucking criminal at this point, if he wasn't before. How could anybody be on his side after he created Ultron? It's hard to root for the hero when the villains are 100% justified in their vendettas.

Tony's character growth from the first Iron Man was undone years ago. He's the same asshole that he was in 2008, but now he has a hundred Iron Man suits.
>>
villain should've been Galactus trying to eat Ego so the Guardians are escaping both Galactus and the Sovereign

>Thinks all life in the universe is hot shit compared to himself

>Decides that all life should just be him because he's so great and plants part of himself on every planet his goes to

>Can't do it on his own so he fucks a bunch of aliens to try and create an offspring with some of his powers

>Has the offspring kidnapped over the countless millennia so he can see if they have the power. They don't, so he kills them

>Knocks up Peter's mom and plants a tumor meant to go terminal in her brain so he and Peter won't have any emotional attachments to Earth when it's time to collect. More than likely did this with other lifeforms he met.

>Also "found" Mantis as a baby and never bothered to raise her properly showing he already lacked any form of parenting skills and viewed her more as a tool which resulted in her lacking any form social skills

Ego didn't do anything right and was an awful parent.

This. It's these absent bits of polish that tell me how little they actually care, and how stupid they expect their audience to be.
