When you get older, you realize most movies and TV shows are actually bad and it's not just you being too quick to judge and not giving things a chance. Just turned 24. Growing up at our age, when the internet was still too new for our parents and we were still too young to understand what smarter people were trying to tell us, was a weird time in history. I feel like human generations where at such a slowly growing line of "culture" for so long, in their respective areas, that everyone of all ages could keep up with everything.

Then the internet happened. And we all saw it. We lived in our own worlds of popular new movies, games, maybe even books, but have you seen these new sites? Have you been to 4chan, to reddit, to ebaumswold, to youtube? You hear about them and learn, slowly through time, and you trudge through the shit. Slowly our generation decided what was meme-worthy and what was just fodder.

And as technology follows a exponential curve, these days culture follows it too. We're a wold culture now, sure we still have borders, but if you're on the internet you're now "worldly" without leaving your bedroom. You need to keep up with memes, regular jokes, societal standards, other countries at such a pace that I honestly feel people simple weren't meant for. It's information overload.

The worst thing is I'm 24. I should understand what's happening around me. I'm not the grandpa walking into his grandson's room listening to that crazy Rock N Roll, I'm just a normal person in this very bizarre world that I don't think we've come close to adapting to.

My only use of Youtube is as a time machine to watch old shit, like music videos and pop culture detritus. There are endless hours of shit like TV from 1980 taped complete with old ads, and YT is a great digital archeology tool which allows you to experience more of past culture than you fucking could have if you were there (literally every music video every made, for example).

The fucking e-celebs and similar twats don't exist to me, but they are useful for bankrolling the YT infrastructure so it can serve a useful purpose as outlined above.
