Nah, that's a myth. Hitler did indeed sign a halt order on the 22nd, but that was because German supply lines were dangerously stretched by the sheer speed of their advance. They subsequently fought the Battle of Dunkirk from the 26th to the 4th whilst the evacuation was underway with around 100,000 casualties on both sides.

People see the halt order and assume it was some kind of chivalric attempt to sue for peace but then when you look at the fact that a hundred thousand men were killed, wounded, or captured only days later it puts the act in to context.

We know that they wasn't even meant to escape as the Luftwaffe was attacking soldiers on the beaches and sinking ships that were carrying soldiers home.

The German line was thin, unprepared, and the communication lines required for massacring 400k men was not in place.

The halt order didn't even originate with Hitler, it originated with the Panzer leader attacked at Arras, and it was passed from there. Don't fall for /pol/ memes

As someone who's actually excited for Dunkirk, his dialogue is reliably fucking atrocious. Interstellar was probably the worst out of his filmography, writing-wise.

Russians literally survived on USA supplies, without those supplies the russians would have never turned the tide of the German assault.

Russia would have nothing to fight with without American supplies, they were almost out of fun powder and didn't have the supplies to even make tanks.

Europe in general really loves to downplay America's involvement with the war, but without lend lease from America Britain would have fallen easily and Russia may have never been able to recover.

And let's not even mention how an American presence prevented Russia from just taking all of Europe after Germany was finished.
