this is legit -the- worst out of the entire Aliens/Prometheus series of movies, its even worse than alien 3 and alien:ress. I would even put some AVP movies above this hack job

>overtly retarded and emotional humans
>weapons that do nothing
>david lacks a clear motive/reason for his behaviour
>no exploration of the engineers
>plot holes, plot holes, plot holes
>neomorphs are cgi shit and not much different from the black ones, function wise
>hardly even get time with the aliens before it ends
>alien somehow develop 10x faster than their evolved versions in the old movies
>>
>overtly retarded and emotional humans
Yup. No lessons learned from Prometheus
>weapons that do nothing
Not really. Conventional weapons kill one of the neomorphs
>david lacks a clear motive/reason for his behaviour
He makes it pretty explicit, he wants to experiment on people
>no exploration of the engineers
Engineer were a terrible idea in the first place & the worst part of Prometheus
>plot holes, plot holes, plot holes
Like?
>neomorphs are cgi shit and not much different from the black ones, function wise
>hardly even get time with the aliens before it ends
Definitely agree on those two, didn't really feel like an Alien movie til the very end
>alien somehow develop 10x faster than their evolved versions in the old movies
True but a very minor nitpick

The bigger plothole was why even develop the weapon from the original form, that dust that can get into your body through your skin? That seems like a pretty much perfect killer, whereas facehuggers are pretty inefficient
>>
>>82747731

I thought it was pretty good senpai, then again I paid attention whilst watching the movie
>>
>>82748276

This. People seem to be just be pissed off because it's not Alien or Aliens. Those were like 30 years ago dudes, film making has moved on. People don't go around blasting every action movie because it doesn't look like Die Hard
>>
>>82748180
>He makes it pretty explicit, he wants to experiment on people
but why? because hes feeling emo? theres no compelling drive

>True but a very minor nitpick
but thats a core part of Aliens, you get infected and part of the terror is when it slowly grows in you. Why would it slow down in a more evolved version?

>>82748276

Because he's a weird robot and doesn't understand how life works? I think it was explained pretty well dude
>but thats a core part of Aliens, you get infected and part of the terror is when it slowly grows in you. Why would it slow down in a more evolved version?
Oh you mean when it's inside the person. Yeah that was pretty weird ho it's almost instant, and ties into my last point, the original form of the weapon seems so much for efficient vs the final xenomorph. Doesn't Ash describe it as the perfect killer in the first movie?

Also, plot holes? Any examples? Apart from people acting like idiots
>>
>>82748441
>LMAO WHO NEEDS HELMETS
Do you also sperg out when they don't wear helmets on Star Trek? Its fiction, grow up

>LMAO LETS DETOUR TO THIS MYSTERIOUS PLANET DESPITE THE FACT WEARE CARRYING PRECIOUS CARGO AND SPENT DECADES AND TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO SURVEY AND VET THE ORIGINAL DESTINATION PLANET
This was established pretty well, James Franco got incinerated and nobody wanted to get back in their pods. Some crew say its a bad idea but the captain thinks its worth checking out at least due to the human signal coming from a seenlingly habitable planet. Its not much of a stretch to believe those onboard would want to investigate at least

>LMAO LETS JUST LAND WITHOUT MAKING MORE DETAIL OBSERVATIONS, AND YES, THE CAPTAIN COMES WITH US, BECAUSE WHY NOT
Detailed observations of what? Why cant the captain come? Why are you so angry over this flick?

Prometheus and Covenant are literally Star Wars prequel-tier movies: expanding on things that didn't need to be expanded on, adding convoluted retcons and connections, complete with its own variation of the midichlorian meme in form of black goo.
>>
>>82748180
>Conventional weapons kill one of the neomorphs

yea, like one single time
rest of the movie it might as well be a pea shooter
>>
>>82747731

Why is this movie so polorising?
I found the movie fine, like Prometheus yet the reactions are all over the place.
>>
>>82748403
If I were to watch this (which I most likely won't), I would want to see something in line with Alien. The more of these movies get made the worse they get. They had a chance to bring it back to something meaningful and worthy of the original with Prometheus and blew it. That movie makes Aliens look like some high brow kino. I have absolutely no expectations for Covenant.
>>
>>82748441
davids drive comes from weyland, trying to make the perfect lifeform, weyland is no longer around but the drive remains.

as for the lifecycle speed, maybe the closer in generations the lifeforms are to goo the faster they reproduce and grow?

Name one plot hole in Covenant. Don't you fucking dare post something that isn't explained as evidence of a plot hole.

I'm sure there are talented writers in the world who could make something out of these movies but what we get is this brainless money grubbing shit. Throw some xenos and some explosions in and the plebs will eat that shit.

>>82747731
All your opinions are wrong. You either didn't see the movie or are too retarded for even entry-level sci-fi.

Why hasn't any alien sequel surpassed the second one? Aliens isn't even that good but it wins just by virtue of being a halfway competent, functional action thriller.

Now you have Ridley Scott undermining the mystery and spookiness of his own film and changing the lore in ways the james cameron movie didn't even remotely try to do. Why is it so hard to make a good alien movie? Alien 3 is a broken mess and even that manages to capture the spirit of the first movie better than anything subsequent to it.
>>
>>82749022
the engineer ship in original Alien full of eggs is impossible

>all engineers are dead here
>aliens are created by david, not engineers

so how does an engineer ship end up with hundreds of alien eggs somewhere else for nostromo to find
>>
What I don't understand; is that they have guns. So that establishes that they have a contingency for agressive native life at their destination, right? In fact they were utterly nonplussed by the presence of trees, and were actually surprised there's no birds or animals. This raises important questions as to how common life is in the Alien universe. Are Weyland-Yutani tripping over planets teeming with life?

So, if they expect to find life at their destination, why do they utterly fail to account for the possibility of viruses?
Oh wait, because the plot needs them to.

There's a 10 years span between Covent and 8th Passenger, and two or three more movies to cover that period, so there's every reason to think this will be explained eventually. Just because all the answers aren't given right away doesn't mean it's a plot hole.

So how will more facehuggers be made?

Nothing led us to believe that David created a Queen. Or created the Xenos hierarchical society. He had two facehugger samples at the end. And none of his black goo research materials. After those two facehuggers infect two random crew members, how will the species propagate? The first two Xenos to chest burst weren't Queens, why should we be led to believe the others will be?

I haven't seen AvP, but other than that I didn't think any of the older movies were bad. Just very different to each other, which is a good thing. This isn't really some epic science fantasy saga like Star Wars, lore and the overarching narrative doesn't really matter to me. I liked having different people's takes on the Alien idea, with Ripley there to ground it with some continuity.

Alien 3 in particular I think is underrated. Resurrection is intentionally farcical, which I think rubs people the wrong way because they are too attached to the series. If it was released as an unrelated sci-fi movie, I think it would be better appreciated.

Prometheus and Covenant manage to take themselves way too seriously, and still have huge plot holes/terrible logic, which is not a good mix. They try to be more than Alien, but at the same time they rely very heavily on references to Alien. Again, not a good mix. Should have released them as a separate series, but I suppose it would be difficult to market a completely new Ridley Scott series in the 2010s.

Prometheus had some good ideas, but Covenant gave them up. It has no integrity whatsoever. Scott admitted that the xenomorph is only in the movie because people asked for it. Yet, the final product features it as a huge focal point.

This guy gets it. At least Jeunet had the balls to completely run it off the rails and incorporate other media, like "Aliens: Labyrynth". Ridley just half assed it with expanding things nobody asked him to expand upon, and then caving in and tying it back to Alien. He could've just filmed "Isolation" and he would be praised for it. Instead he decided to release his incoherent, half baked ideas on us.
>>
It's just a cash grab at this point, nothing makes sense story-wise, and the characters are so artificially stupid that you can't relate to them in any single way.

>>82749990
It's the setup for a slasher movie in SPAAACE. It's pretty mysterious and spooky, and Giger's art adds to it and makes it really Gothic and strange, but it isn't like it's solving the meaning of life to understand what happened there. Hey, that reminds me, you ever wonder just how Darth Vader BECAME Darth Vader? Well I got some movies you need to see.
But besides that, how many more of these movies will involve a group of people in a ship who get attacked by weird monsters, and one of them maybe betrays them, and then other weird monsters come into play? This series is creatively bankrupt
>>
>>82750051

>Wasn't that approved by Scott.

>>82747731
What was good about Alien is that there was lots of details and substance to the planet, the creature, the crashed ship, the crew.

This movie has too much going on and not enough detail, and the detail it does have focuses on a more broader philosophical question rather than events taking place around the actors.

He should have focused more on a specific creature or on David and Walters relationship or on the Engineers or on Shaws fate.

Way too much going on.

Well, the premise is that Ripley has been cloned 200 years after her death from a drop of her blood after jumping into a fire, and the resultant clone is a hybrid of her and the xenomorph. She is a bit more evil than the original Ripley, which is regularly used to comedic effect in scenes with her playing basketball, for example.

A farce isn't inherently a bad thing, maybe that's why you're confused.
>>
>>82750051
Also notable in that even though there are dozens of Xeno on that ship, including tons of eggs there isn't even the slightest hint of a queen.

Looks like we're going back to the turning people into eggs thing after all. Which is pretty fucking stupid because Xenos need to sacrifice 2 humans just to make 1 of their species. One to get HUGGED, and another to get Egg'd.

Having an egg laying queen just makes so much more sense. Like why is the Xenos at the end of covenant straight murdering people if they need them to breed.
>>
>the whole flute scene

Perhaps I'm just not cultured, but what the fuck was all that about. I was expecting David to shove it through Walter's head, but instead nothing fucking happened.

>Also the parade of people finding the decapitated body one after the other was farcical. You see basically the same shot of the head floating in the sink three times.
That shot was creepy as fuck but showing it once would be enough. Waste of screen time

How many times.... He bred them using the knowledge he gained from the engineers. Xenos have been around way before David got involved

Also he says he loed shaw and felt compassion for her and yet that was completely pointless because he killed her in the fucking movie.

They literally made what people hated about Alien 3.

I was expecting a Dr Shaw and David going on adventures & shit. Not watch a bunch of retards being chased by cgi xenomorphs with shit slasher flick scenes.

It was so cruel too. It wasn't enough that Shaw died in a crash, or even that David simply strangled her or whatever. He dissected her alive. That revelation left a very bad taste in my mouth and was the final nail in terms of my opinion on this film.

Shaw didn't die in the crash. We see the ship she and David came to the planet hovering over the city when David releases the virus and then the ship crashes in the woods. Shaw clearly crashed it. But they don't show it to us. Maybe we'll see it in the director's cut.

This is a problem with prequels they go forward with a story as a backstory is being told. Intrinsically jarring.

It's probably very likely that xenos can do both queen and without queen, the queen needing a lot of time in building a hive, logistics in keeping her several ton fat ass alive (talking raw food here) and safety from imminent threats. Not to mention the queen chestburster is unique and takes a while to grow.

on the plus side we go down to a 1-1 trade.

>>
>>82751259
They shot a lot of scenes with her. Then they cut them all from the movie. See the prequel on JewTube.
>>
>>82747731
I liked it, just like I liked Prometheus.

Alien movies were never deep stuff, this one was pretty okay.

The only Alien movies I didn't like where 3 and 4. The rest are all good, including this one.

By the way these movies are prequels to the original Alien film, the way it is implied the Engineers created the virus that creates Neomorphs, but David through genetic engineering created the Xenomorph. So the Alien we all know and love is apparently created by David, I think that's really cool.
>>
>>82751126
You have to read the eu novel 'Alien: Covenant - Origins,' an official prequel set before the film to figure out what happened.
>>
There's no way the facehugger laid an egg in acid-face that quick

Also the xenomorph coming out of the captains chest fully developed, just smaller was retarded
>>
Is the Xeno in this movie the same one from Alien?

We know that the Xenomorph is shown in Prometheus mosaic on the walls. So David perhaps has created a Xenomorph using what he studied from the Engineers science; thus meaning that the Xeno in A:C is actually an attempted copying of the Xeno in Alien and Aliens and may not be an identical copy but be different.
>>
Does anybody know where did David take the alien embryos he takes out of his throat at the end from?

>>82749441
Dude. Parasites on earth that evolved to infect sea creatures 99% of the time fail to do anything in mammals. Parasites are specialised creatures.

To expect an alien parasite to be compatible with a human organism is statistically incredibly unlikely.
>>
>>82753302
>stupid
>saying that when in this movie 90% of the time weapons do nothing

in film the audience expects certain things to serve a purpose or achieve a certain result. A torch provides light, a suit of armour provides protection, etc. When results are lacking the impact of the prop is gone. The whole reason why Alien and Aliens was so tense is because of limited weapons and ammo, leading to the Ripley powerloader scene. And in Alien 3 the plot was that they had zero weapons and had to improvise.

Why can't they just make a well written movie that features aliens in some form or another?

Instead they just took slasher movie tropes and put it in an alien franchise skin to maximize revenue.
>>
>>82754705
Honestly? It's a very good, fun movie. It's a slahser movie, in space, not as good as the first, but a fun kind of B-movie that you can poke fun at and still enjoy. Biggest flaw is probably the cast being too big to keep track of. Plus it looks good. And Katherine Waterson doesn't wear a bra.
>>
>>82754705
>action, effects, shots, cast, sound?

In my opinion all were fairly good.
I can think of one instance of obvious green screen and one shakeycam action scene. On the flip side there were two great action scenes and many instances of seamless CG. The Xeno looked fine, was neither great nor awful.

Cinematography, acting and sound/score were good to great.

I enjoyed the movie, it's entertaining at least and whilst the concept isn't breaking any new ground the direction it goes in the second act was a pleasant surprise

I saw a commercial on TV about Alien:Covenant , it gave a illusion of all shits happen in the movie,
from experience , I know that the better commercial , worst movie.
It was fairly long, some ~2-3 minutes, that means they invested shitload on marketing and that only points studio don't believe in the flick actually.
Maybe as some director cut 4k bluray trilogy in the future, but, idk.
Fuck, I would rather watch some good indie Alien remake(what with everything happening in 2-3 rooms in a spaceship and all) than this overpriced, polished turd.
Honestly, at this point, its really an art to fuck up such IPs(2010-2017) has everyone went mental? So afraid to lose money that they'll lose money at end.

>>david lacks a clear motive/reason for his behaviour

I absolutely hated myself for paying money to see Alien: Covenant because they conned me again with Prometheus 2.

That said, this statement is untrue.

They establish in both Prometheus and the opening intro of Alien: Covenant what David's motivations are.

> Weyland creates David
> David is better in almost every way
> David hates that he was created to serve

Look at the opening scene:

> David plays anything on the piano, names any art piece, etc
> He has been programmed to know everything
> He asks difficult questions of his creator and his creator cannot answer
> He has therefore surpassed his creator
> Weyland has flown too close to the son and will be destroyed by his creation, hence the name Prometheus
> In the end, Weyland asks David to make him some tea and David has no choice but to obey
> He is to live a life of serving those that are proven to be his lessers, etc
