What they did to her character was incredibly mean-spirited. The movie was already losing me, but once you see her dissected remains I was utterly done.

Scott doesn't even consider those canon, so thats a moot point. Besides, its the mean-spiriteded circumstances of her death thats galling, not the fact that it happened. You literally see her opened-up body on the table with a lingering shot of her flayed face, and David is callous enough that she was most likely alive through a lot of it.
