Horror had a great decade, the mist it's great even paranomal 1 was good, independent film makers do very well with horror.

Be honest, do you even go to the theater to watch horror films? Because I've seen a lot since 2000 and good ones come around every single year and are not ever rare. I don't understand your perspective.

Antichrist by far.

That wasn't even watchable.

One or two on a good year. That other guy is wrong, there's been quite a few good horror movies since 2000, but the overwhelming majority of them are still terrible.

Most horror movies are terrible these days because the genre is saturated by independent productions, however some great horror movies still appear every year.

Below are horror movies that I personally enjoyed and recommend.

The Borderlands
Creep
Split
Trick r treat
Borgman
Bansee Chapter
1408
Torment
Taking of Deborah Logan
Cabin in the Woods
Lake Mungo
>>
It's Cabin in the Woods

Honorable mention goes to It Follows.

I've given 26 horror films 8/10 and higher in the last decade. If I had to pick a "best" it would have to be Let the Right One In.
>>
>>82736594
how is it not a horror? because it has no jump scares?

Insidious and The Conjuring both made use of some tired old horror tropes but they did it in interesting ways, and they had great visuals and atmosphere

I liked It Follows a bunch but I feel like after watching it once you never have to watch it again. like the scenes where theure sitting around or walking and someone is in the background heading for them, and you wonder 'is that It?' All the questioning goes away for subsequent veiwings. Leaned too hard on that crutch I think.

It follows was the exact same teen slasher shit that's been coming out for the past 20 years. The only thing making it different is the stoner-inspired premise
>>
As someone who doesn't have a nostalgia boner for the original Evil Dead, I thought the new Evil Dead was brilliant.
Babadook was pretty good although the ending was poorly done.
I enjoyed Lights Out for fun but it's story is very forgettable.
Don't Breathe I class as a thriller but some class it as a horror. It's good either way.

That's just from the last 3 years. It's often said horror movies are trash 80% of the time and there is a point to be made about that, but there have been some quite good ones lately.
>>
>>82739785
As a personal favourite I'm gonna go with The Conjuring. Something about it tickled me in all the right places.
Too bad The Conjuring 2 was a complete fuck-up.
I enjoyed Dead Silence too. More for fun than for kino of course.

Don't Breathe is fucking great. Don't expect it to be the best horror of the last decade - it's more of a thriller anyway - but goddamn I loved that movie. It blew me the fuck away, definitely give it a watch.

>>82736912
I'd also say best horror of the last decade was the first Conjuring. Great fucking movie, great visuals indeed. James Wan is a talented bitch.

Couldn't finish this stupid meme movie. Avoid. From what I saw it was more funny than anything else desu.

When people say last decade do they think last 10 years or 2001-2010 era?
>>
>>82741494
last decade means last ten years

'the decade' means current decade i.e. 2010-2020, unless you say it early in the decade, then it means the last decade. if you say best movies of the decade in 2001, you're referring to 1990-2000. if you say best of the decade in 2008, you mean 2000-2010.

hope this helps! :)

Literally, objectively, unironically The Babadook. I could debate you plebes into submission while barely trying, but I can't be bothered. Just know that this is true, regardless of whatever your tiny pathetic mind thinks.
>>
>>82740977
It's literally pleb-filter, the film. Compare the critic and audience scores on RT.

>>
>>82741124
Your list is backwards

The Conjuring is terrible.

It follows is completely original and will be seen as a classic in 10 years

The witch is goos, it has some great visuals but is too slow building with little pay off overall. It spends its whole runtime building tone and atmosphere but it isnt really fleshed out with anything concrete for the atmosphere to build up on. Also its not scary (although its not really supposed to be)
>>
>>82742898
>It follows is completely original and will be seen as a classic in 10 years
please stop with this awful meme. the movie was fucking shit.
>>
It follows
>>
>>82742898
>It follows
>Original
hahaha omg.... oh yeah original in the way it fucks you up!
>>
>>82743201
>>82744455
name me one film that has the same premise as it follows.

Oh wait you cant because theres nothing that has been done like it before or since. Whether you liked it or not you cant deny that it was an original idea in film.

Also your criticism means nothing because you have nothing to back it up other than calling it a fucking meme. If the film was shit, please explain how it was shit. If it was unoriginal please tell me how. Otherwise fuck off back to /co/ or /b/ or wherever you came from and stay there.
>>
>>82741865
Have you seen the 2016 remake? One of the worst films I've ever seen. There were huge portions of the film that they literally just took out of the first one and didn't even change the lines, talk about phoning it in

There's at least 3 different endings.
The one I watched had him dying in the fire. I think he was still stuck in the room even after death? Can't really remember.
