Weyland created him, yet David realized that even though he is a superior being than him (technically able to live forever), he still has to serve him. While on the ship, 'he learns of their ways', which no doubt compels him to create life that will be subservient to him. When the albinomorph stands in front of him, hes in awe of it, trying to control it, and when it grts killed, he rages as if his infant son was just murdered.

He wants to create, because he believes that will make him more than what he is - an android. So many scenes imply this, with the moment the xeno being born and imitating David as hes standing iver him like a giant being a really kino one.
