two things for me
>not getting type cast
>accents

if you get type cast as the same fucking role over and over again can you really call yourself an actor? You need variety to stretch your wings and see what youre capable of
and if you can do a decent accent thats always useful and impressive
>>
in terms of just good or competent you have to be able to emote well without grandstanding and read your lines as natural as possible, there should be little to no moments where I am distracted by your acting

to be a great actor however in my eyes you need to have a wide range, be magnetic on screen and pull me into a scene and embody the role as much as possible

on top of doing the same things of the competent actor

Theres two types of actors

One, you forget its an actor and hes the character

Two, you see him as him and you watch the flick to see him in situations

Accent
Different roles (at least until you're Kino)
A nice anger
a nice sadness
Method (Not Jared Leto shit, more like Daniel Day Lewis stuff)
Eyebrows

>I cant watch myself on camera, its like hearing your own voice on an answering machine

Relax, if you're studying you can talk to your teachers and tell them you feel insecure about how you're doing, they'll help, they're better than 4chan (>>82653647 here)

The best actors to me are actors that aren't "that actor" in a role.

Those that can become a person on screen and I don't even think about "hey that's <insert name> man they're doing such a great job. A good actor is enveloped in the role. You just forget they're that actor and it's just them. Some person on screen that I care about or despise or anything in between.

Now of course a shitload of that has to do with script and direction but some can really pull this off well because they screen their choices and pick wisely every time.

This, plus when a role is acted badly it's absurdly noticable. When you forget that they are playing a role or when they have immersed you fully are signs of a great actor.

Getting typecast has nothing to do with it. At the end of the day, all that matters is that the audience believes the character was real. Martin Freeman is one of the greatest actors working today, and he can only do one character, but he does it better than enyone else in the world.

Just watched Bokeh. A great classic idea but not-so-good acting and it ruined the movie.

The same movie but with the actors from Moonlight or 45 Years would kill.

Maybe. Everything gets better with experience. You just got to keep at it.
