For those ITT that actually took a film studies class, what was your class like?

Mine:
>two days a week over the summer at 1pm (got to sleep in)
>walk in, teacher plays a few select scenes from certain movies to show a filmmaking technique
>then we watch a full movie
>short 10 question quiz at the end of class of film terms

I made a perfect 100 in the class.

Here's the movies we watched:
>Citizen Kane
>High Noon
>City Lights
>The Matrix
>Manchurian Candidate
>Casablanca
>March of the Penguins

A couple more I can't remember at the moment.

Not an argument

>>82656170
Maybe if you guys spent more time defending the movie instead of attacking my character I'd change my mind

But of course you can't do that because it's not a good movie and you only claim to like it because you think it makes you smart
>>
>>82656291
>attacking your character
Wewlad. 90% of your posts were just IT SUCKS. Then everyone pushed you to actually say why it sucked, and you reluctantly gave extremely over-arching broad non-answers like "muh pacing." If you enter a discussion and disagree with someone, you should tell them why so they can evaluate your opinion and have a productive discussion. If not, then stop shitting up the thread.
>defending the movie
I don't have to if someone can't make a decent argument as to why it's poorly done. As the initiator, the burden of proof is on you.
>>
>>82655830

Well, it's a huge mess of a film. Imagine if David Lynch failed 3/4 of the way through making Idiocracy. That's pretty much Southland Tales. I genuinely enjoy it, but a lot of that enjoyment is in trying to reverse engineer what Richard Kelly's intended version WOULD have been.

Huge sections of the script had to be reworked in to a nine minute exposition dump at the very beginning of the movie. They ran out of money for effects. Etc.

BUT, the plot is about neo-marxist pornstars and amnesiac cops and near-future scifi dystopia weirdness.

Now I know what you will say, "it's a kids movie" "faggot disney"
Truth is, this movie gives such positive vibes to me that no other movie can. In the end, don't we rate movies by how they make us feel?

Right, let's be fair. Most people don't get exposed to film a lot. It's easier these days. I'm 27 but my family was poor, so I was stuck with what I could record from TV and the odd few VHS tapes knocking around as a kid. Now and again, when I got enough pocket money (once or twice a year), I chose a film from Morrisons.

It wasn't until my mid-late teens (16-17) where we had a decent enough internet connection to actually start watching more. Even then there's a lot to explore and with limited scope I spent an entire year watching horror movies and their sequels.

By the time people talk film studies they're hardly versed in film.

These days my favourite film is Metropolis, but I hadn't see it then. I don't think I had heard of it in truth, and had zero opportunity to watch it.

It's easier these days, with 99% of children growing up with a fast internet connection, but I still find it unlikely that they've explored film properly themselves.

My film studies class with fairly proper in their selection too. The obious French choices (Breathless, Jules et Jim, 400 Blows), a few British bits of crap (A Taste of Honey, I don't remember much else) and then the odd few other standard selections (The Graduate). The biggest disappointment was watching The Dawn of the Dead remake as opposed to the original. I personally find the remake to be an actual 0/10 with no value.

All Quiet On The Western Front from 1930. Great film, if you're serious about movies you should watch it, it's a classic.
>>
You know I never think about it but I think The Thing is my favorite movie. I can't think of one bad thing about it, it ended in a way that I was satisfied and didn't want more but was executed so perfectly that I still thoroughly enjoy watching it all the way through every single scene.

It may not apply to you but in my case, the teacher was really critical of my work along with the few others who were, let's say 'woke', while he always said 'interesting, good job' to the batman fucks. I needed some time before realising he was actively interested in improving us while he didn't care about wasting time with the others.

Oh absolutely, She made me reshoot my entire short film I had to produce, however the quality I believe is 10 times better now (although it's still very amateur) but with others she kind of just nodded and said it was great. So in that aspect I share similarities with you. I'd post it here but it would get ravaged lol.
