This. Its all about churning out mass appeal 90 minute CGI shitfests to rake in the most amount of money possible. Nobody is going to front any director the cash for a 2 year shoot and a project that takes over 8 years to finish. Almost everything in this series was hand crafted by people that actually cared about a quality production. Compare that to the Hobbit where its all CGI and looks like soulless shit. TV is where the true kino is being made now I'm afraid

There's a ton of really great sci fi shows and films but almost no good fantasy. Any recommendations or lists? And I mean fantasy in the classical DnD sense with magic, dragons and swords.

Films like Pan's labyrinth also kind of qualify but I really want to watch more typical fantasy.
