>"Nerd culture is the product of a late capitalist conspiracy, designed to infantalize the consumer as a means of non-aggressive control."
- Simon Pegg

>"A sweet-faced boy of twelve told me proudly that he had seen Star Wars over a hundred times? I said, 'do you think you could promise never to see Star Wars again?' He burst into tears. I just hope the lad, now in his thirties, is not living in a fantasy world of secondhand, childish banalities"
- Alec Guinness

>"I don't think they are making [comic book movies] an elevated art form, I think it's still just Batman running around in a stupid cape.. It's for kids, it's adolescent in its core. "
- David Cronenberg

>"I don't want to see or make films about super heroes that fly around in spandex and a cape solving the problems of the world. I think it's fine for children, children of all ages by the way, but it's not for me."
- William Friedkin

>“They have been poison, this cultural genocide, Because the audience is so overexposed to plot and explosions and shit that doesn’t mean nothing about the experience of being human.”
- Alejandro Iñárritu

>"Superman makes me vomit, Batman and all of that. That whole empire... this religion... It is so important that superheroes suffer... I don't give a damn, I shit on the United States."
- Alejandro Jodorowsky

>"To my mind, this embracing of what were unambiguously children's characters at their mid-20th century inception seems to indicate a retreat from the admittedly overwhelming complexities of modern existence"
- Alan Moore

>"The movies are for children but they don't want to admit that... There is a small group of fans that do not like comic sidekicks. They want the films to be tough like The Terminator, and they get very upset and opinionated about anything that has anything to do with being childlike."
- George Lucas

How do we save film?

>Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.
- C. S. Lewis

>it's a capeshit shill tries to reduce all modern cinema to disney's levels to pretend that since everything is bad you may as well go for "fun" movies and just ditch art as a concept episode

We see right through you, you know
>>
>>82630236
I don't even particularly like Capeshit, I just think it's funny you care so much about capeshit being infantile.
>>
>>82630259
>capeshit should be art
lmao
>>
>>82630104
>Pegg
Star Wars/Trek fan.
>Guiness
Notorious sourpuss and angry closeted gay, mad that most of his work was overshadowed by a pulpy summer blockbuster
>Cronenberg
He's right
>Friedkin
He's right
>Inarratu
What a twat
>Jodorowsky
One of the biggest twats in film.
>Moore
If you know anything about Alan Moore you know he's a twat. Literally /x/ the person. Claims to be a magician.
>Lucas
Got lucky that the people around him editted his work into something watchable 2 & 1/2 times.

Capeshit's for kids. News at 11.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Nice choice of person to quote, retard!
>>
>>82630227
Not really. The only people who think that way are ignorant teens who have barely scraped the surface of cinema.

I bet you also think Tarantino is a great filmmaker, when in fact he makes nothing but exploitation films and homages to other genres. His approach to cinema is quite juvenile but i'm sure an ""adult"" gentleman like yourself doesn't have a problem with any of his works because sex, drugs and violence is le cool XD and so adult!
>>
>>82630217
Based.
>>
>>82630271
It's because people who say that are 15 year olds who'll do anything that makes them look more adult. They're vapid and boring, and love to act like they are big grown-ups. Think about how they accuse people of being of being virgins, when any adult that regularly gets laid and has a normal life would never use that as an insult because it's an immature thing to do because sex isn't that big of a deal.

It reminds me of a five year old that doesn't want to play with a toy anymore because "that's for babies". These kids on this site just reek of know-it-all youth.
>>
>>82630323
>Tarantino
Also great, although a little one trick pony-ish. Nice zero arguments by the way
>>
parables and fairy tales are meant for easy digestion for all ages, that doesn't stop you from creating more complex stories

escapism is a valid reason to watch movies and engage in art

personally though capeshit doesn't appeal to me much anymore because it tickles my heart, soul and brain more if i see art that can accurately mirror our harsh realities in a beautiful and revelatory way but if that's not someone's relationship with art that's fine

The Guinness quote isn't about Guinness hating Star Wars.
Sure, he was pretty upset that his most known work is Star Wars, but he didn't hate the role itself.
>>
>>82630309
The person being quoted doesn't change the truth in the quote :^)

I wanna see David Lynch commentate a Marvel movie
