Kylo Ren's entire point as a character is that try as he might, he can't actually access the dark side like Vader could, and like other Sith Lords before him could. That's why when he killed his dad as an act of divorcing himself from the things and people he cared about, it had the exact opposite effect on his powers that he expected. It diminished them horribly, because Kylo felt nothing but regret when murdering his dad in cold blood. Oh, and then he took a bowcaster to the stomach.

So no, Rey beating him is by no means a stretch of the imagination. Honestly, it's more of a feat for Kylo that he could stand and fight during that scene at all.

As >>82610100 said, it's always been clear that Lucas & co. wanted flashy laser-sword duels but couldn't pull it off for various reasons; Alec Guinness was old as fuck, David Prowse was hindered by a ridiculous costume and the technology just wasn't available at the time.

I like the prequel's dance-like combat. I like the idea that fighters use the force to "dance" together until one lets their guard down or runs out of energy. It's not like realism is high on Star Wars' agenda. This is a universe where you can hear explosions in space for fuck's sake.

On a side note, I also like the short and visceral duel that Obi Wan and Maul had in Rebels. That grew on me after a few rewatches.

Ren wasn't a Sith Master on the level of Darth Maul, and Qui-Gon wasn't a weak lightsaber dueler. Obi-Wan's prior training shouldn't have mattered because Maul was one of the greatest lightsaber duelers. He specifically enhanced his entire body only for lightsaber combat.
Darth Maul wouldve killed any normal Jedi Knight or padawan easily. But no you are ignoring the fact that Maul set a base line by killing a JEDI MASTER and making excuses for a fucking padawan killing Maul.

In ANH Luke was stated to be an excellent shot even without the Force, which only served to help him aim a lot better than a targeting computer could.

In PM Qui-Gon said that force sensitives have much better reflexes and can feel things before they happen, which added to Anakin already being a good pilot, made him able to pod race.

Rey on the other hand, randomly came up with the idea and execution of a Mind Trick, and then even more randomly, became an incredible duelist with a weapon she held for a few seconds.

Rey however, after just hearing about the force, was more proficient than any force user in history. Luke, after nearly a year of using the force to time when to pull the trigger, only managed to make the hilt of his saber tremble, and that was after five minutes of effort. Rey, on her first try, uses Force telepathy, an ability Luke only ever was able to use with his father.
Vader could not use force telepathy on Leia and had to use a droid, Again with Han, he used a torture droid. Rey's out force telepathy Ren's force telepathy.

Anakin using the pod racer is not at all a mary sue. Anakin's mother had said of how he had never finished a race and his wasp jew boss said as much. In fact, Anakin's Presence, or Force Danger Sense, the same ability Luke managed when pulling the trigger, timing when to launch the Homing Missiles to blow up the death star or the very same ability Obi wan used against Grievous, Only ever managed to make Anakin AS Proficient as his fellow Racers. At not time did having Danger Sense give him an Edge. Anakin had raced for years and he had to Practice. The galaxy is a big place and films don't show everything, especially with there being only one film in this current trilogy. They also intentionally don't show her parents or anything outside the narrow frame of view of the empire and Rey.
