nah his performance was fine, movie was going for realism and he didn't need to be grandstanding like Daniel Day Lewis dumb ass. He pulled back to exude cold and calculated but flexed his acting chops when necessary like when he was trying to coerce Frankie into killing that one nigga while they were drinking in the bar or the monologue that closed the film.

I haven't seen 12 years so I cant say.
