Reminder John sacrificed a lot of logic and continuity in order to create the ultimate isolation/paranoia terror, the film just can't be put together to make a linear narrative sense, the fact no one has figured it out 35 years later testifies to that, there are at least 2 possibilites and timestapms for every event.

I never completely understood the nature of the assimilation process.

Do you get:

a) infected without noticing, acting as your normal self until the parasite bursts out of you and controls you completely

b) replaced over time on a cellular level, so that the parasite is only mimicking human behaviour perfectly while the original person is long dead

c) slightly altered in your perception and desires to play into the things agenda, while still remaining yourself until it twists you completely. A bit like this fungus infected ant developping an unstoppable desire to get to the top of blades of grass.

Maybe several versions are possible. The movie is a bit unclear in the presentation of the process.

Things that needed zero explanation. One could easily infer what happened:

-They find UFO
-They find the Thing trapped in ice
-Bring it back
-It thaws and wreaks havoc on the base -- much like what later happens at the outpost

There's really no reason to make a movie out it. I would've rather a movie based on the videogame -- or even the comic-books.

I hope you know all normies thought the new one was a remake and hated it because they didnt understand what the characters were saying regardless of the subtitles and got bored after 30 minutes. I know this because I went to go see this in theaters and they all hated it for different reasons. Most other people in the theater after the credits were saying, i dont remeber that happening in the original, and i liked liked the effects but who was macready, oh i didnt know why they replaced kurt russell with the girl. The story in this one is more moderb but the acting is worse.

So what's the consensus, did Fuchs an hero or did the Thing kill him? tbqfh if I were the Thing I'd just roast him. I think this is one of the films mysteries that really is completely unknown. In the film they mention him burning himself which makes sense if he was being chased or cornered as Fuchs, along with Blair, would be the only one at the time to realise how dire the situation is. Other than that we can only wildly speculate. Unless I missed something.

Also, do any of you wonderful fucks have a link to the "Men of Outpost 31" documentary from the recent blu ray? I can't find that shit anywhere, nor can I be arsed buying it.
