Just recently watched both films. Alien is a fantastic horror movie w/ sci-fi elements. The movie has real craftsmanship. Having H.R. Giger on set personally building and sculpting shit give the movie a unique look, plus Ridley Scott was still an incredible visionary director back then.
Aliens is a fantastic action movie w/ horror and sci-fi elements. Cameron is an action movie God. One of the best sequels of all time. It does not look as good as Alien, but provides one hell of a roller-coaster ride.
Both are among the greatest in their respective genres.
