Galipoli is probably the best and one of my favorite movies of all time, I saw "Wipers Times" on Netflix a while ago and thought it was good as well, although it doesn't really have any action and is more comedy. Passchendaele was pretty shit but it's action scenes were okay, maybe look them up on youtube.
>>
>>
>>82533161
Anons always recommended me paths of glory. It' really well made for it's time and the amount of people used in the battle scenes is huge too.

Wow people actually are interested in the second largest conflict in human history not because a shitty video game was made about it? I'm shocked. BF1 is closer to WW2 in terms of feel anyways.

Guys I'm writing a horror movie set during WW1. Would anyone watch? It's basically a squad of British soldiers getting stalked by a shapeshifting vampire.
>>
>>82535255
No. WW1 is already interesting. You don't need vampires in there to fuck it up. If it were just a flashback sequence it would be better, but still stupid.
>>
The Great War (1964)
>>
>>82535255
Where exactly is it set?

I'd probably have them experience the horrors of war and go desert, maybe explode half their company as they march down the road or smth
And when they run away through the eery landscape the vampire comes to get em
Remember that they had people sign up from one village or street as a group so they could serve together, that idea is neat but also real terrible and can be exploited to further the relationships of your characters

I'm imagining A Field in England with WW1 and a vampire here
>>
>>82535255
If you use a better anagonist than a shapeshifting vampire cuz that would just be the thing in WW1.
>>
>>82535860

It takes place in late 1917 somewhere in the Ypres Salient.

Basically what happens is the mining operations during the Second Battle of Messines blows open a medieval catacomb where this thing was trapped out, it gets out and wrecks havoc on the Germans. British soldiers occupy the trench, find all the Germans dead with their throats ripped out. Once they start realizing something is wrong they are shelled by their own men and they have to go through the trenches to get out. This thing takes the form of some of the soldiers, makes them super paranoid and drives them crazy. Finally the last soldier confronts it in the catacombs and traps it again.

Working title is No Mans Land.
>>
>>82533489
>easy (You)s
>>
>>82536203
>This thing takes the form of some of the soldiers
Don't you mean The Thing™? :^)

Sounds neat enough though, I like that you have a specific place, battle and cause with the mining operations in mind
>>
>>82535255
>>82535443
This could actually be a semi-interesting way to do this story. Frame it as a lone survivor of his squad in a mental hospital(they were super shitty back then so even that would be spooky).

The story would flip between him explaining to the psychologist what happened to his men and seeing creepy shit in the hospital and flashbacks where we see what really happened. It shouldn't be obvious that anything supernatural is occurring until over halfway through the movie and the doctors(and the audience) should think he is just badly shell-shocked/PTSD ridden.

Ending could just stop after the twist of finding out they were really killed by a monster or having the monster show up at the hospital to finish him off. or just show him going insane and never getting out of the hospital. few places to go there. interesting idea though, anon. sounds neat. would watch.
>>
>>82533304
I watched that in high school and the entire class was just completely bummed out at the end
>>
>>82536520
Good. It's not exactly a feel good comedy about an Australian road trip
>>
>>82536330

Yeah its basically a mix between the Thing and Noseferatu. I want to use the trench environment to create unreal levels of claustrophobia. I'm a WW1 reenactor and have been out in the trenches all alone, late at night. It's fucking terrifiying and would be a perfect enviroment for a horror movie.

>>82536436

Nah at this point I'm going to end it kind of like Inception. Throughout the movie the protagonist is trying to get back to his fiancee Lucinda in England. The monster takes Lucindas form as a last ditch method to try and stay free, but the protaganist doesn't fall for the trick and traps it with explosives. He eventually gets back to England, walks into his house and calls Lucinda's name and she's kind of standing the way the monster does when he's taken a human form. Then it cuts to black.
>>
>>82536520
It really captures the futility of the war, I like how it's so light hearted and fun all the way up until the first battle, and then you realize how it's not a game anymore.
>>
A very long engagement, it's got Audrey Tautou doing cute things.
>>
>>82536594
Oh fuck, that actually sounds way better than my idea. I can imagine those cramped spaces in the dark not being able to see around the next corner. good stuff. is there someone more likely that the monster would take the shape of in the final act? how would it even know what his wife looked like? a picture he has with him?

Deathwatch,

>>
>>82536894

Yeah a picture falls out of our protagonists pocket and he gets ahold of that.

I have one scene where one of the guys is crawling through a dugout and it gets increasingly smaller and smaller. All he's got is a candle and as he gets deeper he starts praying the Catholic act of contrition. He gets to a certain point and he hears a missing comrade call to him. He turns to go towards it and realizes that something is off about the voice, like its a recording or something. Then he turns around and sees the monster scream in his face and it takes him down.
>>
>>82537000

Yeah I was actually halfway through mine when I heard about this movie. Unfortunately it has pretty much the same premise (Brits occupy a cursed German trench, go crazy). But I think the critical difference is there's much more of a survival thing at play in, theres also a clear antagonist and a totally different ending. Also a medieval shapeshifter is alot different than the Angel of Death or whatever that ending was about.

somewhat related question: there was a film i saw once but could never remember the name of, with a murder happening in a french bunker during ww1. any idea what it was?
>>

for All Quiet you might as well just read the book. It's more effective, is an easy read, and is really quite short.
>>
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oeJkpsOqQgc
It's a french movie called 'un long dimanche de fiançaille'
Quite good battle scenes and it also deals with the post war trauma of many soldiers

I'd watch your movie, anon.

I like the cut of your jib, sir. I do German WWI living history at Newville.

If I can ask, is there an allegory in your story idea?
>>
>>82533161
Legends of the fall although it's noe exactly about ww1.
>>
>>82538198
Quality production but like most films with trench warfare it's only a backdrop to be visited for 10 minutes. Similar situation in Lost City of Z, and A Very Long Engagement.

Nobody wants to get nitty gritty with the subject unless it's a pit stop on a larger journey.
