it made very uncomfortable
>>

Just finished that new episode
>episode 5 is a Matt episode
>episode 6 is a Laurie episode
How the fuck are they going to resolve all the plot central stuff within two episodes? Seems like they are cutting it real short
>>
>>82527896
7 out of 8 episodes have already been screened for critics, and they've said there is still no clear resolution to the show by episode 7. So there's either a big horrible plot twist in 8, or nothing at all and does/doesn't resolve itself quietly
>>
>tfw I'm getting Nora mixed up with Fargo because she pretty much works for the same company type in both.

Fucked me up when she was told her trip was "paid" by the company in the Leftovers and when she went to LA in Fargo and she got charged and was told "you never told us anything about this trip".

Anyways, pretty solid so far. I would it expect any real explanation and you shouldnt either if you've watched the series until now. It's just a back and forth between was the real? No it wasn't, but maybe?
>>
>>82529692
Oh and that last scene was pretty amazing and hard hitting even though it was pretty simple.

What's the meaning of this scene?
>>
>>82527896
Laurie episode involves both Kevin & Nora. Her, John and Michael are seen at Grace's house in the trailers.
>>
>>82527896

None of the plot threads honestly seem that hard to resolve. There is certainly no guarantee it will do so with everything being all nice and tidy.

I've never seen this show, but I know a little about the book. It never actually resolves what actually happened to everybody that vanished and leaves it completely open for interpretation. Is the show like this, or does that not even really matter in the wider scope of the story? I'm genuinely interested.
>>
>>82532574
The real answer is "I don't care"
>>
So I guess God or whoever made Kevin think he was seeing Evie just so he would appear in the background on that morning show and his dad could find him. Truly God works in mysterious ways.

The Sudden Departure hasn't been resolved and I doubt it will be, if anything the show has added even more inscrutable supernatural elements to confound the characters.

When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]
And when the stars fall, dispersing,
And when the mountains are removed
And when full-term she-camels are neglected
And when the wild beasts are gathered
And when the seas are filled with flame
And when the souls are paired
And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked
For what sin she was killed
And when the pages are made public
And when the sky is stripped away
And when Hellfire is set ablaze
And when Paradise is brought near,
A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it].
So I swear by the retreating stars -
Those that run [their courses] and disappear -
And by the night as it closes in
And by the dawn when it breathes
[That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger
[Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position],
Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.
And your companion is not [at all] mad.
And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon.
And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen.
And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].
So where are you going?
It is not except a reminder to the worlds
For whoever wills among you to take a right course.
And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds.

I think he genuinely loves Nora but, as of the last episode he clearly found out she doesn't care nearly as much about him as he does her and now he really has no purpose (until Kevin Sr shows up of course). He doesn't want to tell her about what he is going through out of fear that she will leave him again.

>Patti's "ghost"

She has pretty minimal screentime in S2 and almost none so far in S3 (and likely not to have much more, if any, before the end). The characters that get dropped by the end of S1 are replaced by much better characters in S2.

Could be that some external force either allowed Evie to project herself onto this girl or created a hallucination in Kevin's mind. Either way, if it weren't for Kevin going out to find Evie, he would have never reunited with Sr. Pretty crazy coincidence if it's all just Kevin's delusion.

Her being in two of the best, most captivating tv shows at the same time is a little frustrating for that exact reason. It takes you out of the story.

I don't follow much tv news so I didn't know the cast for this season of Fargo so watching it the first week, instead of really paying attention I was mostly trying to remember what other big things Carrie Coon was in. I'm ADD as shit so that's my own fault for being distracted, but even if it breaks immersion just a little bit I see it as a negative thing. She's great in both shows tho so fuck me

As true as that is, not everyone will touch or even understand those works. I mean christ, The Catcher In The Rye is all she wrote on coming of age stories, but we keep making those kinds of stories to account for changes in values. Season 1 is a pretty straightforward adaptation of the book, with a few key differences (namely the importance of Patti's character). After that the plot is completely new material and Kevin's life only gets stranger. If that bothers you it's worth noting that Damon writes the show with the original author, so the tone is still consistent, just a lot heavier.
>>
>>82553970
but when he calls back the second time he still gets called Mr. Durst
>>
>>82554004
I don't think season 1 is a straightforward adaptation of the book, just from reading the plot summary of it, there are a lot of liberties taken, I think the book and the show are just two different things entirely

>>82553970

>>
>>82554004
>so the tone is still consistent

It really is not in any way, shape, or form. Once it loses the novel material, lindelof actually seems to go out of his way to undevelop the world so he can focus on his stable of bullshit characters.

None of the returning characters bare any resemblance to who they were in the first season, beyond names and maybe titles. People try to excuse this with character development, but all the ways the season 1 characters developed into their season 2 counter-parts happened off screen between seasons and is never addressed.

Furthermore the events that drive the characters also shift drastically to "LOST" style bullshit rather than anything remotely grounded.

So the second and third seasons aren't consistent with the first season in either characterization or plotting. Bravo lindelof.
>>
>>82554060
nah, bookfags were all over the first season, they've since stopped watching. First season was just about a word-for-word adaptation of the book with only very minor lindelofisms.
>>
>>82554170
That's a big post that doesn't really say much. Could you give specific examples?
>>
Are they really going to make Nora the Anti-Christ? Or make her give birth to the Anti-Christ? Fuggg I hope not Carrie Coon is too pure ;_;
>>
>>82554282
Well there's literally everything to talk about, so lets just focus on kevin.

In the first season kevin's basically the only rational or intelligent person in the universe. Except hes got this crazy drunken retard split personality that exists only to force sane rational kevin into insane, irrational situations. What ever, smart people don't do dramatic things, oh well. Its a flub and can be forgiven since the entire season is, apart from the departure, entirely character driven. Cult leaders, cult members, anti-cult people, people's reactions to other peoples bullshit, etc, etc.

Then in season 2 kevin is suddenly all batshit all the time after what was kinda sorta a resolution of his issues in the last season, hes seeing dead people, going to other worlds, coming back from the dead multiple times, etc. hes basically just jack from lost except even dumber, somehow.

and as far as lindelof lostisms, open of the episodes in season 2 opens on a prehistorical cave woman with a fucking baby.
>>
>>82554287

The subplot about Evie was badly executed, although I liked watching bloodied Kevin walking through the city and randomly bothering people, but you could easily tell that he was just tripping again.
It doesn't even make much sense for Evie to be his projection since he knew her for all of 30 minutes
>>
>>82554428
Can't say I agree with you there, I always felt that Kevin was a bit off his rocker from the start. Hell, one of the major plot points of season 1 was the fact that he took someone to the middle of a random forest and beat them up. I do see that he does have a rational side to him, but I don't think that side goes away in season 2. You only get to see it more in season 1 since Kevin was working as a police chief.

I take it that you didn't like the direction season 2 took, but I disagree that it somehow went against Kevin's character. His arc in season 2 was simply triggered by the events that happened in season 1. Like, he's haunted by Pattis death because he feels he understands her, so it felt very natural to me. Also, the supernatural sort of vibe that the show carried was always present from Season 1 (Matt and the pigeons, Holy Wayne, etc.) and was always something I really enjoyed about the show, so I liked that it was carried in season 2
>>
>>82554706
>Hell, one of the major plot points of season 1 was the fact that he took someone to the middle of a random forest and beat them up.

That wasn't "kevin," though. That was his drunken retard alternate personality that existed only to force sane rational kevin into dramatic situations. Drunken retard kevin is never actually on screen in the first season.
>>
>>82554747
He's not on screen for the second season either excluding that one short scene in the finale, but it's still him. It's still part of his character, not sure what you're trying to say
>>
>>82554694
They only did that because everyone was sick of patti after lindelof ran her into the ground.
>>
>>82554801
I'm saying that split personalities that are never on screen or developed are not actual characters. They're plot devices that exist only to force the actual character into dramatic situations. A lazy plot device, at that. As it is ultimately just the writer driving the character into a pre-baked situation because said writer can't think of another way to establish that situation.

Even if you try to insist there's any remote similarities between [UNDEFINED] and [UNDEFINED], simply because they're both alternate personalities of kevin, you're stuck admitting all the relevant developments that caused the shift from [UNDEFINED] to [UNDEFINED] happened off screen, between seasons. Because once lindelof had to generate all the OC, he did so with the belligerent and hackish fashion that is is calling card.

So, I'm done quibbling with you.
>>
>>82555158
well when you put it the fuck that way
>>
>>82555168
Kevin isn't suicidal though, you're simply mischaracterizing him from what he did in S2 even though it was properly explained why he did it.

Sleepwalking Kevin was always shown as being impulsive from season 1. He beats up Patti because the GR has been a major source of anxiety for him. He drowns himself because he went to Virgil who then told him that in order to get rid of Patti he needed to kill himself, so that is what he subsequently irrationally did.
