I got bored watching the 3 hour director's cut. How did Salieri kill Mozart? By working him to death?

That element doesn't actually exist. Mozart just dies. People who want to say Salieri killed Mozart, (even suggesting poison, which is totally baseless), want to give the movie more depth than it actually had, forgetting that this goes against Salieri's original plan, which was to kill Mozart after he had composed his requiem.

He doesn't kill him. He plans on doing so but Mozart dies on his own from exhaustion, stress and sickness before he finishes his Requiem at which point Salieri then planned to murder him though he never goes into how he plans on doing that. I really adore the scene though as it shows just how enraptured Salieri is with Mozart: even when he plans on killing him he still can't help but both respect and despise him for his amazing talent. They even bond a little over this and it's just a great scene.
