Based on Archie comics, they're going for the tone of the Waid run and the head writer also wrote Afterlife with Archie. The whole thing's grounded in reality though Sabrina the Teenage Witch is showing up in the finale and/or next season.

It is really comfy
Neon lights are a lazy trick but they're cool and they contribute to the atmosphere
The acting is not bad
The characters are pretty well written, I like the interactions with their parents (as opposed to fucking 13 Reasons Why and its socially inept adults)
The grills are hot (Cheryl Blossom hnng)
The plot is good, kinda naive how it's only like 5 families which supposedly do everything in town but it's not heavily flawed by any means
7.5/10 not a masterpiece but a very pleasant viewing, I'll keep following it

Isn't Jughead supposed to be some kind of happy-go-lucky doofus, at least in the comics? If so, it's a bit hilarious how the character seems to be the total opposite of what he is in the comics, almost as if the characters were developed completely differently from the source material and was he was the only character who would fill that role, or almost as a joke, make him have no resemblance to his comic counterpart except his hat.
