Was this movie, with the Data bullshit deleted, actually the best ST film?
Time is the fire in which we burn. I know you understand.
Time is a Predator.
Picard denying the Nexus, being revealed as, basically, hollow without duty.
McDowell turning in a performance better than he could have gotten away with.
Kirk....Kirk getting himself killed just because he was bored.
A lot of strong core concepts in this one, good photography (although the sets were shit), above-average performances.

Interesting idea terrible movie
I've always liked it. Question, though: in one episode and at least 2 books that I can think of, Guinan exhibited an ability to perceive the timeline changing. That is to say, when some kind of time-travel even causes history to change, her altered self in the new timeline can perceive that it is wrong and strives to change it back.
Is this a characteristic of all El-Aurians, or just Guinan?
If this is endemic to the whole species, how do they live in the Trek Universe without being beset by near constant plight?
If it is unique to Guinan, how/why does she have this ability? I know that the origins of this is it never addressed, but I wonder if anyone has a working theory? Something about the Nexus? Perhaps the mutual animosity between Q and her has something to do with it?
What do you think she thinks about the JJ Universe she is no doubt living in? She was alive and gallivanting about the Galaxy back then, too.
watching picard freak out annoys the fuck out of me. i dont care how much sense it makes for the story.
>Kirk's death scene is completely unsatisfying
>Scenes on the Enterprise before he gets sucked into the ribbon are shit
>Villain's plan is unneccesarily complicated only to further the plot
>No explanation of how they leave the ribbon and arrive at exactly the time and place to save the day
>Picard Christmas fantasy is weird and not at all believable
It has some good parts but too much of it sucked

OP here. Not disagreeing with you. My question is whether or not the concept is actually good enough to outweigh the execution, and rate it as a good movie.

NOPE.

Think one of the books actually does confirm the Nexus connection. Something to do with the way she was ripped out of the Nexus.

His character is really what my makes my question hard.
He was the victim of a genocide, he was right in that everyone dies eventually. He had a shot at personal heaven, at no long-term price to anyone or anything else.
It boils down to this weird conflict of what time does to people. Soran needed the absence of time. Kirk and Picard considered it's absence purgatory, at best.
That Nexus scene....Picard denying Rene, and finally killing a lie he had been telling himself his whole life. Crushed it.

What if we pretended the whole Data emotion chip bullshit wasn't there?
