What was your favorite part?
>>
I liked the part where Groot killed that asshole that bullied him.

Also I like the end credit scene with Teenage Groot.

When Drax tells Mantis the water reminds him of his daughter.
Then Mantis feels him and she instantly starts crying.
Good moment.

>>
Just came back from the theater.

Okay movie. Drax is still the best character.

The worst part was the constant arguing and yelling. There was a lot of that in the first movie, but its gone to new extremes here. I want to kill Rocket myself for arguing so much with everyone. It was exhausting.

Unironically this.

Whenever they said that mammals wouldn't survive so many hops, I was expecting something dramatic to pass the time, but when they bust out the Courage the cowardly dog distortions whilst screaming like maniacs I just couldn't hold my sides.

Seeing Debicki made me get sticky and my mom yelled at me in front of everyone for fapping under my coat. Marvel movies are shit.

I felt like Star Lord got dialed back a lot, he almost came across as a different person. Not nearly enough wisecracking or being a jackass from him.

Pratt didn't seem to have much heart and soul in this one compared to the first, he came across as boring.

Nearly every scene felt like it ran about five seconds too long just to insert some dumb and unfunny joke.

A competent editor could take out 50% of that shit at the very least and the movie would improve for it.
>>
>>82502035

He lost all powers related to his home planet. Immortality and creating matter. He can still hold Infinity gems and survive in space longer since he wasn't connected to Ego at the time he did those things in the first movie.

Being bothered by tone-deaf shoehorning of cheap jokes and quips during scenes that would be dramatically effective without them isn't being retarded.

Imagine if in A New Hope, that at the end of The Binary Sunset scene Luke says something along the lines of "Man, this planet blows." before he walks off.

People holding back tears is the best way to have sad moments. It usually means the actor pretending to fight them back, but I found that the whole empathic touch cry with Drax's stoic look also pulled the trick.

Not only that, it would have made way more damn sense if impregnating other species with his children was just a death sentence to begin with. That would have killed two birds with one stone:

Quill: "Why couldn't you just bring us here yourself?"
Ego: "I couldn't bring your mother here just to watch her die."

Then you can later let it slip that Ego wasn't just talking about her being mortal and avoid the whole cheesy, "I loved her so I had to kill her," essentially making him a bad Guns-n-Roses joke.
>>
It was kino.

James Gunn has a very distinct vision with these movies, and he communicates that primarily through his art direction. The reason these movies excel, despite or in spite of the humor that illicits scowls from some audience members, is that it has a distinctive visual style and personality. It did not settle for another Marvel movie. If it was not marvel It would stand just as strongly. It's why The First Avenger worked (imo) and the reason why something like Strange fell flat.

That's a problem in the comics actually and now the movies/tv shows is trying to show the general public this as well.

Earth is literally just a random civilization among the thousands, maybe even millions of other civilization.

Peter is the only Earthling we see in either GotG, and bar what we know of Hulk going to space for Thor 3, the only Earthling who has been there in an impactful way.

Not every alien that goes to earth is going to cause a massive stir, some could just arrive quietly and chill for a bit, others might just want to see what the planet is like etc.

Maybe intergalactic laws against advanced races intermingling with our race and planet to protect us I guess it would explain while the only aliens that visit are alien criminals like the Ravagers or godlike aliens that do whatever they want like Ego and Thanos. Another theory is that only beings like Ego and Thanos know about earth because they been around for so long and manage to find earth by way of exploration so it would make sense that earth location is somewhat not known by a lot of the other alien races.

You should read about the Marvel Cosmic entities. All-powerful Gods that make up the universe of Marvel.

The infinity stones allows Thanos to be more powerful than all of them combined, except the golden guy in the middle.

in the old version of Infinity Wars, Thanos loses because he literally becomes the universe after destroying everyone but his daughter Nebula finds the stones and undos everything he does. Anti-climactic, but the only logical and emotional way to end this ridiculous series

It depends where you choose to cut it off, but the 'classic' story has Thanos one vs everyone, he wipes out most of the good guys quickly but then does the bad guy thing of leaving some alive so he can get satisfaction from personal kills instead of just using bullshit magic.

A scene for that that will surely be in, is that Captain America is the last man standing and gives Thanos the verbal finger. Thanos then kills him and half the galaxy with a finger snap, before basically going on an astral plane magic death journey, wiping out all the higher conceptual beings.

While he's doing that he forgets to guard his body and Nebula steals the gauntlet and basically undoes everything, the kind of end. Adam Warlock ends up supervising the gems and other things happen to do with him and Thanos.

Thanos ultimately goes zen and tries to resist actively murdering the universe for a while, Drax takes advantage of that to punch his heart out from behind.

Thanos then is brought back to life via bullshit, and in order to stop him, Starlord and Nova trap him in a collapsing universe. They stay behind to keep him there just long enough for the universe to destruct.

Thennnnn he comes back via absolute complete bullshit and the stories are so bad I can't be bothered typing anymore. But they're shite.

Lots of chars have legit claims to be involved with dealing with Thanos, but those (Cap, Nebula, Adam Warlock, Drax, Starlord and Nova) are kind the ones with the iconic moments.

Oh and Squirrel Girl.

I know that all of this is the core of the superhero fantasy - the desire to have gods swoop down and rescue us from ourselves, or those who seek to destroy us, and to wilfully discard their own lives to prop up our failing, decadent societies. The ultimate in self sacrifice. A higher power personified in service of the weak and the feeble, for order and justice. But there's a subtly fascistic element to this too, as these gods more often than not uphold the laws of the society they're beholden to and do so with or without the public's approval. When the public disapproves of their vigilantism this is generally portrayed as foolishness or outright ignorance because the hero knows what is truly best for them. And for some superhero fans this is a self-insert fantasy - because what guy wouldn't want to kick society's dregs to the curb with insurmountable authoritarian force. That said, there is an implicit understanding that these gods are not us, no matter how relatable they're made out to be. They're either born with powers beyond the capacity of man, receive these powers but still accept the responsibility of becoming a saviour, or their filthy fucking rich.

So how do you make an interesting story that comments on the nature of man when the main character isn't even human. Just an inserted "perfect" ideal? And you'll note how superhero movies never really comment on morality or ideology. Whether or not the hero is doing the right thing at all, whether or not he's actually the hero, is never the focus. It's not a story about men struggling to do the best they can in a world that isn't black and white. It's just "muh daddy issues" where the hero has to struggle against personal issues that have nothing to do with the actual problem so that he's strong enough to do the objectively right thing at the end.

THAT is why they're shit.

James Gunn is a weird dude and I love him to death for it. His style is just all over the place but somehow it all comes together cohesively.

I also feel a lot of it has to come down to the fact that he was making tiny little indie movies with Rainn Wilson before this and Marvel gave him a hundred million dollars to make his dream movie. I'd like to think the result of the movies is simply him being grateful for the chance.

I almost lost it during that little montage of Peter and the rest of the Guardians having their little moments.

And then they showed a quick snippet of Yondu teaching young Peter how to fire a blaster.

It broke me.

>Knowhere is one of the great comicbook mysterious
There's a comic in the D&A run where they reveal where Knowhere came from. It's from an alternate future the Guardians prevented from happening where the Badoon enslaved the Celestials.

And the one where he's flying with Rocket and Rocket looks genuinely happy and yet isn't shooting people.

Am I gay for tearing up at all the heart-tuggy moments in this movie?

Like not full-on crying, but a lot of parts really resonate with me for a silly action space comedy.
