I liked the first episode quite a bit too actually. The last two episodes just feel completely light in significance, sloppy in execution, and even at times succumb to dullness. So far the whole season just feels like a giant mess to me. I keep waiting for some kind of stability to take hold but we're nearly halfway through the season now.

I really hated the last episode. Their portrayal of Australia as some giant outback with noble indigenous people was pretty on the nose.

Plus I just don't think Kevin Sr is likable or interesting enough to carry an episode.

Season 2 was rather meh until the later episodes in the season (The Matt episode is where it really started kicking into gear). Judging the episodes on 3 into the season is hard as these seasons tend to arc aggressively.

I thought the monologue did a good job of explaining the series of circumstances that got Kevin Garvey Sr. to that current point while at the same time while striking one of the "themes" of the episode (fate vs random coincidence). Also, the way he acted it was very top notch. I don't think I can call it poor writing since I think giving him a chance to monologue about those events drives the "fate vs coincidence" theme home further since you can see how he justifies where he's ended himself up in. Kevin Garvey Sr. always acted crazy before, but with that scene you could really see how he justified it imo

Personally, I really like stories that are very ambiguous in nature, and involve characters getting wrapped up into things that they don't fully understand the significance of, and shit like when characters go on crazy wild goose chases searching for something that they may not even get, or may not even be real. Well yeah I think that's sort of the point. It's depicting the return of christ (or even the anti-christ) as not a literal being from heaven but a man who is just as human as anyone, learning to cope with his "godliness". It's literally a modernized version of the idea of Jesus Christ being both man and God. It amps up the realism on all fronts. What would a normal man, who is as human as anyone, being a figure from beyond, truly be like?

I still don't think Kevin is special. Yeah, he returned from the dead twice, but that chance was given to other dead people as well. You see in the hotel people dressed as priests and doctors, acting weird and trying to accomplish tasks. It's subtle, but it's there. Patty's husband even has a line about it like "Half the people here are always running around doing crazy shit like international assassin or whatever." Kevin was just lucky enough to accomplish his tasks and get back. Also worth noting that he had a guide the first time, something other people probably didn't.

ALSO, in season 2 you hear about a guy on the news from Australia who went into a cave and came back to life. So Kevin isn't the only one.

They set it up the first two episodes that Kevin is some type of modern messiah, which I think was a red hearing.

Kevin SR seems to be the most knowledgeable character so far and if he thinks the Book is full of shit then I think he is right. There might be some importance to Kevin JR's story but Matt and John are in the wrong direction.

The book will definitely have importance in the plot but I dont think its going to play out the way Matt is predicting at all. Kevin is special but there are others like him, I dont think he is actually some kind of prophet.
