I recently watched American Ultra. It had a nice premise that could have been really enjoyable had it been made by someone more competent. The worst thing about the movie was the screenplay. Max Landis, despite being born into the Hollywood system and growing up with movies, can't even shit out a decent Hollywood popcorn flick.

Max, I know you're here, this has nothing to do with you as a person (though you come across as a huge faggot), this is about your talent and skill as a writer, or lack thereof.

American Ultra had some pretty obvious symptoms of production/director tampering with the story. There was too much exposition and every scene following the FBI people was packed full of cliches. But on that RLM video he said it was like 85% his vision which seems a bit high.

Chronicle is ironically better than any movie in the MCU

I love some of his ideas, but I think he doesn't know how to limit them. He's gone on this thing thinking he's great, and, well, he's young. He's not "great" yet. He needs to slow down. I mean, I really want to like him, but I there's a reason he gets shit on. I remember reading his Power Rangers script and thinking t had some really good ideas, but the whole "swap pink ranger with black" while funny in the script, is still taking it too far. Then there were weird concepts like taking Zordon in there car as he was a two foot tentacle creature, then a head, and then a...it was weird.

He should work on more weird, though, but needs to hone it or he'll be stuck in limbo forever.

His internet videos are great (or at least, I've seen his WWE and Death of Superman videos and enjoyed both).

His movies haven't done much for me though.
